Probably Bun (Vermicelli)---like I said previously...my favorite vietnamese dish. Pho being second. This thread is giving me a HUGE craving for vietnamese food!!! Thank goodness I live in Houston....rather than some of you who have no access to good vietnamese food!
I'm curious about this, too. I was thinking about going there today for lunch, also. It's the closest one to the Galleria (from when I searched). Is there a better place close to its proximity?
Fatty, there's a Kim Son right around the corner on Westheimer. Kim Son is really terrific, but it does cost more.
Well, I've been there exactly once, so take this story how you wish. Anyway, I ordered an iced tea as a drink, my friends had water. My iced tea comes, and I'm looking at the murky looking glass and thinking that's it's a bit dirty, but whatever, I'm not a girl. Then I pour some sugar into it, and as the sugar is dissolving I look closely at what can only be a small wad of paper. So I remove the questionable object and it turns out to be a huge ball of slime. At that point, we all ordered bottled water. I had already ordered my food, so when it came out, I was extra careful looking at it. I had Spicy Beef Noodle soup, and well, it wasn't spicy, it was barely flavored water, noodles were over-cooked, and the beef had to be at least a week old. It didn't have any weird stuff in the soup other than the bowl it came in was less than clean. So yea, I won't step foot into Vietnam Coast again.
Fatty- Depends how far you want to drive. Tau Bay on 59S and Beechnut has good soups. The pho there is marginal, but their other soup offerings is second to none. The pho is still better than 75% of most places though.
It's a little bit further past hillcroft. Closer to Westheimer and Jeanetta but there is Bodard Bistro on the right next to the CVS Pharmacy. Their rice dishes are pretty good and their soups are as well. But try their BBQ Spring Roll. Those are the best in town.
coma, damn dude... if I had that experience, I'd probably stay away too. I've never encountered anything weird in my food or noticed that the dishes weren't clean (although I'll probably look more closely now). I've been there many times and the food's always been good.
BTW, how filling is Pho? If a burger and fries fill you up, will Pho? Or do you need to order a couple of spring rolls on the side?
Vietnam Coast used to be good several years ago when they had different ownership. Since they've changed their Pho has been terrible and I haven't gone back since. It's been probably 2-3 years since I've been there.
You could always just eat the pho and then drink a bottle of lard to make you feel like you had a burger and fries.
Pho is great, but for those of us that arent great with chopsticks, its hard to eat. and those soup spoons they give arent helpful either. its weird eating soup with a fork, but in this case, some of us have to do it.
As the saying goes... I can go to an all you can eat Oriental buffet and be hungry again in a few hours. Why is that?
I'm not eating rice at an all you can eat buffet! Thats a waste! Thats stomach space for shrimp or sashimi, etc. I'm totally stuffed when I leave, but I'm craving cheeseburgers a few hours later.
