I never said it was feasible. It wouldn't hurt to try though. It isn't as though there have never been lopsided trades in the NBA.
Not exactly. We just paid the Kings to take our former 2nd rounder that we oriignally paid to acquire. Les Alexander lost a few million on that deal in hindsight. We didn't receive an early 2011 second round pick.. we're not going to get ANY 2nd round pick.
You are correct. I just checked the Taylor trade and the 2nd rounder is heavily protected. Earlier reports were that it was the 2011 Kings 2nd rounder. Les Alexander lost a few million, but he has full trust in Morey to strike gold in the early 2nd round (Landry) and that the nature of the contracts of 2nd rounders is worth the fee to acquire them. We shall see if T-Will was worth the price of getting him.
....the crop of stars who can help is pretty thin right now - I'm not sure who Houston could trade for. Iggy seems to be about as good as it gets if Melo refuses to come here. There is really only aging stars which wouldn't make sense for us (VC, Kobe, Pierce, Garnett, Duncan), a handful of good players in their mid to late 20s most of which switched signed new contracts this offseason(LBJ, Wade, Bosh, Stoudamire, Johnson, Durant), and finally rookie contract guys. The league is really deep with young talent right now but you rarely see a player with any sort of promise switching teams on team friendly contracts. The only young player I could see Houston seriously making a run at is (some will cring, some will applaud) Ricky Rubio. Otherwise you really have to take a risk on future picks and hope to get high enough in the lotto. The only contracts that truly make sense from a value perspective are rookie contracts and superstar contracts. Morey would be happy to pay either but I don't see a superstar level talent worth max money after Melo/Paul....is Iggy worth it? I'm not so sure. Is anyone else worth it as far as under the radar guys? I would say Danny Granger(who Indy will not let go of) and then the list dries up to another tier of player who most certainly aren't worth it.
I'm sure all along our problem has been that we didn't at least try to trade Luis Scola for Blake Griffin. I need to find out where you work so I can tell Donald Sterling about this and he come down and heckle you for a while for such a ridiculous post.
TWill is 6'6 220, if thats not a SF idk what is... Other SF's around that size: Wesley Mathews- 6'5 220 Andre Igualdala- 6'6 225 Caron Butler- 6'7 228 Rodney Carney- 6'7 205 Corey Maggette- 6'6 225 Vince Carter- 6'6 220 (I know he plays SG but he can play SF also) You'll probably use the argument that a couple of those guys are 6'7, one inch isn't much in the NBA! Plus TWill cannot shoot the ball well at all, which is important for a SHOOTING guard lol
Melo isn't coming here, we just waived the white flag.... Iggy should be our target with Battier, Jeffries, Lee, Bud, Hill and a pick all as trade bait... I can see us consolidating our assets very soon..... Get 'Er Done Morey
He does have the bulk, I just wonder about the height, but if he is strong enough and a good enough athlete like all of those players you listed, then sure. DD
I thought he might have been but i checked on it and he's listed as a SF, plus they got Roy to play SG
Forget going after Carmelo. He would leave after this season. He's going to the east to play in NY, NJ, or Orlando. That is all.
So yeah the next move should be for Iggy. They need bigs and money, we have both. I'd offer: Bigs: Hill, Jeffries+ Battier since he has I guess "intangibles", is expiring along with Jeffries come June and like I said earlier they need bigs Our line up After? Here: AB/Lowry Martin/Lee Iggy/Williams Scola/ Hayes/ Patterson Yao/ Miller Also I might pursue Landry by offering Buddinger and Brooks+ Hayes But I look Brooks and I doubt we're gonna bring Landry
It all depends on Yao's health and whether or not Morey wants to keep Brooks or Ish. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=23z42wu Lowry/Ish Martin/Lee Iguodala/Williams Scola/Hill/Hayes Andersen/Miller or Brooks/Lowry(flip Ish for a draft pick) Martin/Lee Iguodala/Williams Scola/Hill/Hayes Yao/Miller
You're drastically missing the point. 3 for 2, 4 for 3, etc happen all of the time. But 4 $3M contracts for a max star has never happened that I am aware of. The overwhelming majority of star-level max-type contracts required at least one other high-priced (generally expiring) contract to make the deal work. Pau Gasol for a near max Kwame Brown Ray Allen for an $11+M Wally Z Kevin Garnett for an $11+M Theo Ratliffe $20M of Allen Iverson for Chauncey Billups and Antonio McDyess Shaq to MIA for an $10+M Odom and a near max Brian Grant Tracy McGrady for essentially a maxed Kelvin Kato The list goes on and on and on. If you want to believe that the expiring contracts of Shane Batter and Jared Jeffires are suddenly going to be teamed with Hill, or Budinger or Lee to suddenly bring a Carmelo-type star to HOU, we'll just have to agree to disagree.
Why is it more attractive to potential trade partners to get a large expiring contract like Cato or Brian Grant rather than two smaller expirings like Battier+Jeffries?
I think Iggy should be our next target. He is the most gettable. Although it might take Brooks to get him here. Who would be willing to give a Aaron Brooks and continue to start Lowry with Courtney Lee and Ish his backup just to get Iggy here? It would be this lineup. Yao/Hill/Miller Scola/Hayes Iggy/Budinger Martin/Williams Lowry/Lee Thats a better defensive team and you replaced Aarons offense with Iggys. You covered up Martins defensive liability and have a athlete on the floor running with Lowry. Took hardly no asstes away and dont have to worry about resigning Brooks in the offseason to a huge contract.
