I really have a feeling that Morey might try to get back into discussions with NY regarding draft picks and Randolph. By doing so he will essentially play NY and NJ against eachother for Melo. With all this talk going out about how NJ has some many picks+Favors+Murphy to throw at DEN from MELO and how NJ is in the lead for MELO, I think NY will do exactly what they tried to do to get Lebron. They will PANIC and get RAPED again. I honestly can see us coming out with Randolph+(Chandler or Azabukie) for the pick that they originally gave us just so they can land MELO right now. Giving NJ our pick, making them the percieved leader in the MELO running could be a very smart play for us to WIN BIG again from a NY fire sale !!!
This trade gives us more options. Now, we can add Chase to entice a trade package without losing much.
http://games.espn.go.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=2be3flp NY Trades: Galinari, Eddy Curry, Anthony Randolph, 2011 1st (Houston releases swap option in this trade), 2013 1st, Cash NY Receives: Carmelo Anthony Denver Trades: Carmelo Anthony, Nene Denver Receives: Galinari, Eddy Curry (expiring), Budinger (cheap), Chuck Hayes (cheap and expiring), Jeffries (expiring)2011 1st from NY, 2012 1st from Houston (via NY... not sure if this is allowed), 2013 1st from NY, cash Houston Trades: Budinger, Chuck Hayes, 2012 1st (from NY), releases swap option for 2011 NY 1st Houston Receives: Anthony Randolph, Nene The New Jersey deal is much better for Denver, but Melo might still give a thumbs down to the Nets deal. The Rockets hold that key swap option that locks down the Knicks 2011 1st rounder. We will have to be involved in some type of deal to get the Knicks that pick back. The Rockets get Randolph to groom and a solid insurance policy at Center in the case that Yao is done. Nene instantly gives us a shot blocker that is no slouch on the offensive end and boards. We only give up: 1. CBud who is about to be out of the rotation with T-Will coming in. 2. Chuck Hayes who gets replaced by Nene. 3. Jeffries who is a human victory cigar. The Nuggets get a ton of picks, expirings and cash to reboot their franchise. They will have 2 1st rounders each year through 2013. The Knicks get their man and can roll with a Felton/Melo/Amare lineup. Rockets still have Battier around to mentor the new players as well. Bringing in Randolph opens the door to finding suitors to Scola who is at his all-time high in trade value. We continue to stockpile young talent to develop while giving away what would likely be late lottery or middle 1st round picks and bench players/warmers. We also keep our 2011 1st rounder. In this deal was done, the McGrady trade would have netted us: Rockets Trade: 1. Broken down T-Mac 2. Landry Rockets Receive: 1. Kevin Martin 2. Anthony Randolph 3. Nene
^ VERY WELL THOUGHT OUT I'm concerned about the Nene inclusion. I dont see why Denver would agree to move him other than they fully sell out to rebuilding and want to clear his salary. I think they will eventually want to move his salary and Billups salary at some point. I think if they had to choose between keeping one or the other, they would keep Nene because he younger and a BIG. From a rockets standpoint...I love the pickup of Nene+Randolph and I like the thinking of trying to find a way to keep Battier. The rumored NJ deal that is out right now is better than your proposal for Denver because DEN would receive 4 1st's+Favors+Murphy as opposed to Gallo+3 1st's+3 expirings+C-Bud Again, I dont think its a bad package for Den to receive but I still cant see why they would include Nene.
To answer the question made the title of this thread: his next move will be for a role player with a good contract who is easily flippable. the end.
They include Nene because Morey holds the Knicks 2011 1st rounder hostage and Carmelo holds the Nuggets hostage. Leverage baby... leverage!
Terrance Williams is basically going to audition for the SF spot in the Rockets rotation for two month before the trade deadline and if he doesnt work out... not a big loss from Morey's bag of assets. IF... and its a big IF... Williams does work out and upgrades the SF position for the team then you will see a bundle of our role players get moved an upgrade at one of the positions. Im not sure about Williams' trade clause, and if he is able to be moved before the summer, but if he is featured in the Rockets rotation and our PR department works the same kind of wonders that they did with Artest, then he could become a huge asset to trade as well. To answer the question of this thread though, I still believe Morey will trade and pry away a 2nd tier player like Danny Grainger, and possibly Igoudala, in a trade deadline deal in February.
I understand what you are saying but, look at it from Denver's standpoint. Why include Nene in a deal to HOU with sending Melo to NY if DEN can get a better return from NJ and dont have to lose Nene? If I had to guess, I assume you believe that because Melo can force DEN's hand a little with demanding to go to NY and not sign an extension any where else, we could be the key in forcing DEN to accept anything from NY because we would hold the key 1st rd pick that makes NY a prime player in getting the trade done. I see your logic, but would have to see it to believe it. I would love it from our end, but it seems like DEN is getting screwed.
Me too, some people fail to realize that we almost had Amare at last year's deadline. There is no way that Morey stands still and doesnt make a splash.
I'm hoping Morey's next move is to trade Yao for a bag of popcorn. The bag of popcorn isn't a major drag on our cap space, and it doesn't break if you cough on it.
Agree, hasn't Morey made a trade on the deadline every year he has been in charge? At this point, it could go either way on what type of trade it might be but come Feb the team will look very different.
As of now, the Nets are offering Favors (young stud), Murphy (expiring) and TWO firsts. On top of that, all real sources have denied that Carmelo will extend with the Nets and has his heart set on the Knicks and playing with Amare/D'Antoni. As of now, the Knicks only have a 2013 1st rounder to trade. The Rockets hold the 2011 1st rounder by virtue of the swap option and NY's 2012 1st. The Rockets can assist them in trumping the nets offer in a young stud + expirings + cheap contract(s) + THREE firsts. The Rockets would need more value out of releasing the swap, giving up the 2012 1st, and sending expirings than just getting Randolph. This is just my 2 cents (ok... 3 cents) in how Morey will pull off another amazing trade. There are ways to make small changes to the trade to where it still goes through and we get Randolph without Denver giving up Nene.
