Lot of that goes on around here .... Im almost amazed when people have a reasonably productive conversation.

As usual Bima you summed it up .... management of the cap and remaining flexible within it.

    back to lurker mode

Spare me. Same people expounding Battiers virtues with vitriol spewing out their posts and name calling.

Nailed it here Bima. Most posters here don't seem to grasp the concept of cause and effect and just look at the end result. Apparently Chris Wallace is a genius GM for pulling off the Pau Gasol deal because they have Marc Gasol while DM sucks because we have no superstar.

Blowing Morey won't bring us a Championship. I'm seriously getting sick of this team being on life support all the time. Either pull the plug or get us a damn transplant STAT! Something has gotta happen soon or we will be stuck in mediocrity for the next decade.

So right after you accuse me of so-called 'fan speak', you continue the full length of your post in complete 'fan speak', claiming that we could have had a super star if not for trading away a single player. Maybe I missed the article that reported that Denver was willing to trade Anthony for Ariza. In that case, I wish New Orleans all the best with Carmello.

You continue to ignore the fact that CLee is nearly as good as Ariza even though I've shown you he is. You've failed to recognize or counter any of the points I've made in this conversation, even though I back up my claims.

You're acting ornery. No matter how many times you say something that has been proven to be untrue, you saying it doesn't make it true. I've made my point. Whether you're willing to accept it or not is no longer my concern.

I'm through debating with a rock.

We may never know if getting the DPE was worthless, if a deal gets done in the next three weeks. Perhaps Morey used it as a tool to flush out players that he can target in earnest before the trade deadline. In interviews he gives on the trade process, he states it takes a long time to get a deal done, and a LOT of phone calls. He said last week on the radio that he probably has 20-30 calls with other GMs on a daily basis, and on the day before the trade deadline, probably a 100. You can only imagine that there is a lot of gamesmanship going on.

So the DPE is a good gimmick when he makes those calls. "I've got a DPE expiring on 1/31, what are you selling? Hurry up and give me your best offer, before it's too late!" You have to admit, it's a good tool to gauge the market. Then when he doesn't bite on the offer and use the DPE, perhaps he gets a better offer by standing firm, and then using the TPE in three weeks for a better package, when the sellers are more desperate.

I think the explanation's even simpler than that. Think of the DPE as a full-court heave at the end of the half. The odds of success are low, but if you hit, it benefits your team and if not, hey, it didn't cost your team a bit. It turns out that we weren't able to find any upgrades to use it on, but we'd have been fools not to take a free resource.

I'm sure our most recent slide just made it hard to justify spending money for a lotto bound team.
