The point is that whatever revenue Lin generates, it benefits the entire league, not just the Rockets. Whatever financial revenue the Rockets get from Lin is cancelled out by the fact that every other team gets a similar cut. But as in soccer, many basketball fans will probably continue to believe in the myth of Asian marketing because of their inherent disbelief that an Asian athlete could be valued for his athleticism alone. Nah, there's gotta be some kind of marketing and/or affirmative action thing going on!
Probably not a lot. Yao was a national Icon, even Yi was on the main stream media every time he did well. But Lin, you will never see him been singled out to report in the Chinese TV. There are no extra Rockets games like Yao time on the CCTV sports channel. Unlike some CFs, Chinese fans are fully aware Lin is an American, he is no Chinese. Marbury is way popuplar than Lin.
Yes, the conversation has moved on from there. You are just repeating what I and others have already agreed on. I thought Morey targeted Lin only for marketing $$$. I was completely wrong. Morey and the Rocket's FO are hot on Lin because of his basketball skills.
There are no lack of star struck people in China, but in the main stream media, Lin is not siginificant at all. I checked a web site saying he is No. 6 most popular NBA stars among Chinese fans. Unless you are a run away No.1, you will probably not contribute a significant share for the added revenue there.
I suppose the Peak signage in Simplified Chinese prominently displayed under the basket on both end of the court, among many other signage throughout the arena we see in every single home game are tailored for American and Taiwanese viewers. I get it!
My little sister showed my this video. Its about LOH when Lin left NY, I find him similar to the LOHs on clutch fans, soooo funny... <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/USadFjtTOHY?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
To be fair. Here's an LOF crying about the Lin trade <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/yAcK6qG3CEs?feature=player_detailpage" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Don't really care, just glad he's a Houston Rocket. Imagine playing for a team with fans like that?!!
It wasn't a trade. Both teams got what they were looking for, kind of like with the Harden trade. Given the Knicks' system, I don't think they would've been any better if they had Lin instead of Felton. And the Rockets got a decent PG who helped them make the playoffs. It all worked out in the end.
You're right. Different system an all, Harden would've still come of the bench in his role at OKC, he's lucky to get the opportunity at the rockets to really explode and become a star. Lin was initially going to get that opportunity but who knows how he would've done, could've failed miserably. Anyways, he's a spot-up SG now so I hope he can maintain his 40% 3pt shot from the second half of the season otherwise he may well be traded. Adapt or be traded!!!
I really hope the Rockets learn that they can't lean so much on Harden and make/let him do EVERYTHING. I think his 2nd half of the season was really affected by fatigue. When Harden was out, didn't Lin have back-to-back double doubles? Or maybe that was when Harden was playing, albeit in a less ball-dominant role. Lin is fully capable of shouldering more responsibilities.
I think you're right. I remember reading somewhere that when Harden was out, Lin averaged 21.5/9 or something ridiculous like that, and the team went 2-2 against top 4 opposition. I don't know if you could really read much into a small sample size like that. I think Lin has the ability to score as evidenced by a 38pt game against the Spurs and 15 games of 20+ this season. He has the ability to be a playmaker and pass as evidenced by being this teams assists leader. Having said that, I think McHale doesn't want Lin to be a scoring point guard, more pass first. I think if Harden was injured, McHale would want Chandler to be the 1st option. I love Chandler Parsons but I don't think his playmaking ability is as good as Lin's, he can get in the lane but is not as good a passer. I'd like Lin to be the second option behind Harden, he's proven he can score at a consistently high level when he's aggressive. I hope the coaches balance the usage between Harden and Lin more evenly next season, it will be better for the team, especially if we can get a big man that can play PNR.
At this point, I think it's fair for Parsons to be the 2nd option. He's a better shooter and is bigger. I think Lin should be a solid 3rd option, with the green light to take over games when he "feels" it because he's proven it enough times that he can do so. He should be the primary playmaker unless Harden's having one of those near-triple double nights.
They're on credit cards now. Don't know if other NBA players are on credit cards also. Check out the bank.
