I'd bet that it's a coin flip that Garuba at 27 > Tate at 27 Garuba has the potential to exceed Tate, it's just a question of whether he has the drive (and health) to get there. He's 20 years old. You're judging him as if he's a vet.
This is THE biggest red flag. He’s young, he can improve his shot, etc. … but if he can’t even stay in game shape as a 20 year-old playing year-round NBA/G-League/summer league/euro league on a rookie deal hoping to make it, what would he do as a 30-year old on a guaranteed contract? My guess is we’ll never find out, at least in the NBA.
This kid does not pass the eye test at all. Last night I dreamt of a Garuba, Smith and Eason front court that was capable of shutting down Giannis. I’m hopeful but realistic. So I’m not gonna get attached to Garuba
Let's see how he looks this year. Kid plays the right way, sets screens, grabs rebounds, defends, passes to open man, etc. He's young, still has a little baby fat--probably because he hasn't learned right way to eat. I'm not worried at his size and age with how he looks right now. We don't need more offense, if he can get random tip ins and hit an open 3 now and then, he'll contribute enough with the rest of his game. He's got the game and talent to be a contributor off the bench and as others have said we need those kind of players/minutes. If he's only miss or limited player out of 7 1st round picks in 2 years, that's a damn miracle.
Garuba's **** stain should be someone's avatar. If you have a weak avatar, this is your chance to make your mark (or stain).
No, I am judging on where we are as a team and whether we should give him time to develop or we should give that time to someone else who matches our timeline and is clearly a better player. Garuba IMHO, is not good enough to deserve minutes.....there are better players that need that time. DD
He is probably bound for RGV unless he shows in pre-season. No reason to give up on him yet. You’re getting grumpy in your old age.
He's spend the off-season becoming an expert in self-defeces. When someone's trying to get in, you start sending something out.
Well maybe....I just don't see it, he is not a good basketball player. He looks 2 years away from being 2 years away to me. Players of his skillset are a dime a dozen. IMHO we are looking for difference makers right now.....not role players. DD
Who do you think Garuba is competing minutes with? Tate? If the purpose is development, why do you want to develop a 27-year-old guy? Who else? Martin? Maybe. Garuba is more of the 4-5 (big) while Martin (and Tate for that matter) is more of the 3-4 (wing). They may not overlap that much. Of all the bigs, the only guy that needs to be developed (assuming Sengun and Smith will take up the lion's share) is Fernando. I think Garuba and Fernando should compete for minutes and let us see who should stick.
I think the point of a Garuba is the kind of guy who can guard the other teams' best player. What's wild is he can probably do that right now and do it pretty well, but he can't seem to do anything else at an NBA level.
