WAR IS PEACE - FREEDOM IS SLAVERY - IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH. and the television screens drone endlessly with brainwashing propaganda about wonderous government programs, pretending to show that the government is active and working for the good of the people, whereas each program contains nothing but hot air – and spin. http://www.philipcoppens.com/1984.html such a good and life changing book.
If you assume the Iraq war is the only issue influencing the voters, then you could say that's the case... IMHO, I think the Democrats will be somewhat 'disappointed' with the outcome...
Exactly. I think what Isrealis have done in recent years are borderline terrorism - killing thousands of civilians, using cluster bombs in densely populated areas. If Palestinies and Lebonese have modern weapons, they wouldn't resort to suicide bombs, would they? They'd fire precision rockets at "ligitimate" targets as Israelies do. In that case, would we call them freedom fighters instead of terrorists? I doubt so.
It is not democrats or republicans. the american people will be somewhat disappointed with the outcome in that case. the american people will be losers in that case, not just democrats.
a "war on terror" is a war for oil. and it's war fought in place of a war on poverty, a war on hunger, a war on racism...etc. most of all , it's a damn lie.
"If the people are not convinced that the Free World is in mortal danger it would be impossible for Congress to vote the vast sums now being spent to avert danger. With the support of public opinion, as marshalled by the press, we are off to a good start. It is our Job - yours and mine -- to keep our people convinced that the only way to keep disaster away from our shores is to build up America's might." Charles Wilson, Chairman of the Board of General Electric and Truman appointee to head the Office of Defence Mobilization, in a speech to the Newspaper Publishers Association in 1950
Most of what I wanted to say has already been said but to add my 2 cents here I agree that there really isn't anything like a War on Terror but it is one of these metaphors that politicians like to use to frame any largescale program like, War on Poverty, War on Ignorance, War on Drugs and etc.. I mean in a war on poverty are you going to kill poor people? Terror is a tactic and one that is used by nearly all militaries and combatants. "Shock and Awe" the idea that you will use overwhelming force to strike fear and cow the enemy is just a subset of of terror. What the War on Terror in the broadest sense uses it is as a nebulous clash of civilizations between primarily Western industrialized states vs. Non-Western unindustrialized non-state entities. You can see it here on Clutchfans considering how often posters argue that the US, Israel or anyother formal state can't be terrorists even if they use tactics that are meant to cause terror because these are states whereas a non-state actor's use of military force of any kind makes them a terrorists. More specifically the Admin. and many others also look at this as a clash of World views between a predominately Christian Post-Enlightenment view versus and Islamic view. So while there are certainly several groups like the Tamil Tigers who are both non-state actors and non-Western don't fall under the War on Terror since they aren't Islamic.
