While I don't think it did all that well in the theaters, Count of Monte Cristo is out on video now, and I thought that movie was EXCELLENT.

    Last one, I promise.

Jeff Bridges was the best President EVER in 'The Candidate', with Joan Allen and Sam Elliott. Gary Oldman is the perfect antagonist, so much so that I cheered at the end for the good guys... out loud!

That was a pretty good movie, but I must argue with the "best president ever" remark. I would have to say Micheal Douglas in "The American President", Harrison Ford in "Air Force One", and Kevin Kline in "Dave" were better than Bridges.

I thought he was real, down to earth, cunning and passionate. His character addressed a huge social issue without coming off too 'fluffy'. We'll both have to see what Chris Tucker does with the character.

Just finished Blade 2: Wow! I thought it was better than the first...kinda wanted more romance with the hot chick, though before she got burnt....

I am in the middle of Suicide Kings....I stopped for dinner....Pretty interesting thus far...I wasn't sure if I'd be into it....but I am a big fan of Christopher, thanks Another Brother...

I also got Snatch, and the Count of Monte Cristo...(A toss up between that or "they were soilders" - I was afraid it would end sadly, so I wimped out and got Count instead)

I don't know how I'm gonna watch them all today!?!

btw, Deckard...I got your name since I consider Bladerunner as one of my favorite movies of all-time... (I've seen more times than you can count squirrels in a nut-infested tree.)

Thanks again to everyone who kindly responded...Sadly my lazy day is gonna eventually end. :( :)

Impeccable taste, ROXRAN. Have you seen the director's cut of Blade Runner? Let us know how you liked Snatch. I thought it was totally wild!

Before renting 'Snatch', see the much better version...Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels.....Great flick...

If you love great films, and have never seen the Maltese Falcon, run, don't walk, to the video store.

In the mood for a sweeping epic? Lawrence of Arabia will do quite nicely, thank you, but it's longer than your average Jackie Chan flick.

If you love film noire, and haven't seen L.A. Confidential, or Chinatown, you are in pain and don't know it.

Rear Window is a great curl up on the couch movie, as is North By Northwest.

Want a great comedy? The Graduate, or either of the Sunshine Boys/Odd Couple will have you in tears...as will the first 3/4 of the Party, and all of A Shot In The Dark. If you can find Fawlty Towers on tape, do so. Monthy Python is hit or miss, IMO it's hit hit hot, but not everyone agrees.

Action/Adventure? How about Last of the Mohicans, a seriously underrated film? Rob Roy, the 13th Warrior, the original Get Carter, and the Dogs of War also qualify.

Suspense/Mystery? While I personally advise getting ahold of any of the British mystery tv shows on tape/disc, like Cracker, Inspector Morse, or Prime Suspect, other great options are the French Connection, the Ipcress File, the Day of the Jackal, Klute,No Way Out, All The President's Men, the Parallax View, Vertigo, Harper, and the Insider are all great picks.

Other miscellaneous picks off the top of my head are Chariots of Fire, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, the Hustler, the Searchers, A Man For All Seasons, Glory, The Lion In Winter, In The Heat Of The Night, and ALfie are great watches.

(Kinda) recent realeases...I'd suggest Gosford Park, Where's Marlowe?, and From Hell. Also, if you have it there, Band of Brothers is fantastic.

    Peace

    JAG

Count of Monte Cristo is an excellent, excellent movie. Nothing like some good old fashioned revenge. :D

ROXRAN, I'm a bit conflicted about the "voice-over" version of Blade Runner and the director's cut as well. I like them both. As for the Blade Runner game for the PC... man, if someone ever starts a "What Was Your Most Frustrating PC Game?" thread THAT'S at the top of my list. Four discs! And they couldn't get anything coherent from all that effort. Someone should do it over. (are you listening DaDakota?)

Great list of flicks, MacBeth! Lawrence of Arabia has always been one of my favorites. David Lean was a genius. I always thought "Ryan's Daughter" was great and highly underrated.

'its a think piece. about a midlevel movie struggling.....'

it is kinda crazy. a little teen angst, time travelling/changing the course of the future. a little too weird for me.

    I just watched it myself

    good story, but strange indeed

So many big name actors in a movie I'd never heard of
