Even though you don't have a job and are not Mexican, you have just been right for your first time in seven years here. If I could rep this post ten times I would. Once will have to do.

I would highly advise anyone from going into the medical field (i.e., becoming a doctor) simply because the work is way too grueling to go into it for money or whatever else. Plus, you can make the same amount of money in most other things assuming you can do well in the field.

If I had to take a guess, I'd say green energy is going to be huge. So some type of engineer in the field of energy probably would be set.

Oh, and I second "Assistant to the Regional Manager" position.

    plumber, electrician, carpenter, hvac.

you can't outsource any of those jobs. i'm actually thinking about plumbing. it's a 4 year apprenticeship though.

Information Technology specific to the medical industry should have plenty of job growth for the future.

Why is there a shortage....because we aren't producing as many or because folks are just living longer...or a combo?

I can't believe I'm actually going to say this, but here goes....

    Trader_Jorge is right.

He's speaking truth here. Be wary of "hot" jobs. "Hot" jobs have a tendency to cool down very quickly, and then you're left with a career that doesn't fulfill you personally or financially. Instead of following job trends, find what you want to do and do it with 100% commitment, passion, and determination. Even if you don't reach the "top of your profession" (as the vast majority of us never do), you will at least achieve a modicum of success both personally and financially, and that has to be considered a big win nowadays.
