What Irritates Me About the Whole NYC/NBA/China Thing

    HayesStreet,

    Wouldn't it be better for the NBA to bear the onus of ironing out the details regarding Yao rather than the Rockets?

    If the Rockets dot every <i>i</i> and cross every <i>t</i>, regarding a special <i>contract</i> with Yao, would those contract terms be transferrable? Without the involvement of the NBA from the outset, things could get dicey if the Rockets decided to trade him in the future.

    I think you're right, Mango. I don't know why the Shanghai Sharks have been making requests to the team that drafts Yao, but I don't see why they'd object to dealing with the NBA directly, instead of the Rockets on many key matters, if both the NBA and the Rockets impress upon them that that would be preferable. I can see why they might prefer to set up ties with the team that drafts Yao, but I hope they can appreciate that the Rockets can't just send a player over to the CBA to play, although hopefully the NBA can work something out.
