you don't see it because you're a judgemental person all the time who doesn't want to see my viewpoint, so while you think you're not being judgemental now, you are, there are two other posters who also mentioned race but you questioned me as usual because it gets you up whenever black people talk about race. i responded to this in another thread that i don't believe you ever saw but no one questions why guns are important to you they just accept that about you even though the second admendment was written for an 18th century generation. lastly, I just see issues in race because my father did. I don't need to explain that much further because you don't want it to be explained, you want to complain about blacks and race issues as usual
I am saying i fail to see how it influences them on current politcal views. Unless they are saying they see how people can be oppressed and thus vote libertarian or something. Similar to anti-holocaust movements.
OK just to be clear i am not judging you or trying to be mad about the fact race is reflected in your viewpoint. I just don't understand. Lets do this exercise: You are for gun control correct? Explain to me how your father being oppressed 50 years ago affected this viewpoint of yours.
I understand people get upset about race, not how they use race for determining their code of morals. People generally think about their own ideas and morals. People who are rioting are caught up int he moment and in group mindset.
I don't care about gun control, you gun nuts can have your guns taken from you or not, its not an important issue to me. just becuase I mentioned race doesn't make it an absolute in every political topic. but there are plenty issues wrapped around race that are relevant, ACORN for example.
OK then lets do this, what issues do you care about that WERE NOT affected by your feelings on race? I can see ACORN being an issue but I hope you can see that I and many others can have the same viewpoint just from growing up poor. There are poor people of all races.
From the time I could speak I was afriad of being drafted. At 5 years old it's all I could talk about. Not due to my parents political views , but because of them not monitoring television comsumption in the early 70's. Before you knew it the president was boarding a plane for being a lying cheat. That's alot for a little kid.
why??, what's the big deal to you? if you don't want to understand my viewpoint that's okay, I guess I apologize for taking issue with your not understanding. but the point is i can think of any issue in terms of race, right or wrong metro rail redistricting dealth penalty abortion etc of course there are issues that have nothing to do with race even if I tried, red light camaras for instance, or property taxes, even thought that eventually has to do with race because its about funding public schools which I can think in terms of race
Can't believe I forgot this.. I would watch the Watergate Hearings on TV... my parents thought I was strange. When I heard Barbara Jordan's speech, that sealed the deal for me.
is abortion seen in your eyes as a race issue because of the economics and poor people are the only ones getting shafted if it is illegal?
yes, i don't think abortion is racial issue, but I see it in terms of race, economics, religion, etc.
My parents were educated liberal Catholics who considered liberalism to be the Christian way. The Sermon on the Mount. Jesus was not an economic conservative who says:"I've got mine, Jack.". They were very happy with the Civil Rights Movement and the Great Society Programs of Lyndon Johnson. Except for Eishenhower, they always voted Democratic. Personally very frugal due to perhaps the Depression. Also perhaps due to the Depression did not consider poor people to be lazy.
My parents have never really shared their political views with me beyond who they've voted for in past elections (not always Dem. or Rep., by the way). Neither has military experience either, so that's a non-factor. This election year I've been more involved in discussions with them about the candidates, and I gather that they'll each be casting a vote for the opposite party this time around. Because of the ambiguity of their political leanings, I feel like I've formed my political opinion about as much on my own as possible with all the media these days.
I guess I just see that you look for the common trait that fits the best. To me ACORN, affordable housing, tax credits, welfare and unemployments helps people of all colors but of only one socioeconomic status. Therefore, to me, its seems logical that a person's views on how the poor are treated would be much more responsible for their views on these issues than their views on race.
I was also going to point out that I knew your catholicism led to some of your more liberal beliefs. also, i'm not very frugral but I know I should be because my parents also grew up very poor and just in a different generation and they are quite the savers
let me be clear, when the right wing attacks acorn, I feel its code for a black organization trying to empower poor blacks to vote which would hurt them and they don't care about poor blacks excercising their right to vote.
