I purposely chose Arenas because he has a score-first mentality and he's been injury-prone, like Tracy. And yet, Arenas is also a better shooter, more aggressive getting to the free throw line, and he's a gym rat who constantly works on his game. I thought it was a more interesting comparison, particularly considering they're both been slowed down considerably in recent years with injuries.
The irony is I believe we'd have been better off with Arenas instead of Tmac. With only Arenas around we probably wouldn't make the playoffs and be at the bottom of the standingsthe last 3 or so years and especially last season, so I'm guessing that would we would have a lineup of Brandon Roy, Kevin Durant and Kevin Love. Add that to Agent Gill and would have been the hybrid Portland/OKC of today, only with Yao Ming and an all-star point guard Arenas is more popular but his fame is due more to his personality than his on-court performance. There's no doubt he wouldn't have been able to carry us the way Tmac has done the past few seasons...
They're different type of players. You know that. When both players are healthy, Tmac is a supremely better player and better all around talent then Arenas. It's not even a debate. If you pick one player to build your franchise around and had to pick between those 2, its Tmac everytime (again throwing out the health issue for both).
SHUUUUT UPPPPPPPP o m g get over it we have tracy HE IS NOT THE REASON WE LOSE...HE IS THE GUY THAT SCORES BIG, MAKES THE BIG PLAYS, DOES IT ALL, GIVES IT HIS ALL IN THE PLAYOFFS...ITS NOT HIS DAMN FAULT YOU'RE AN IDIOT IF YOU THINK IT IS....YES YOU ARE AN IDIOT so sick and tired of these r****ded threads about how tmac is the reason we never win blahhhhhhh
This thread is more directed to those posters, perhaps they're an extreme minority, that go on an on about how Tracy is a cancer and he's held our team back. I thought if we took a step back and considered what we realistically would have accomplished with Gilbert Arenas, a guy who hasn't been nearly as maligned, we may appreciate T-Mac's contributions a bit more. It wasn't a well-formed thought, I admit. I probably shouldn't have hit that submit thread button ... oh well.
Wow, this thread really sucks. I hate on T-Mac all the time, but I'd rather have McGrady than Arenas...
I think this is a great thread though. We would be a little bit better if we had AgentZero instead of tmac who scored as many as 6 points tonight. To be fair to tmac, tmac is no worse than gilbert but he just doesn't fit our team, or the western conference. In the west as we know, a team can hardly survive the first round if it doesn't have a good PG. Take a look at what deron and CP3 did in the playoffs then we gotta know the importance of a PG. Our PGs don't have disadvantages in numbers, but in quality. Rafer had been getting better and better since he joined as before the season of nightmare began, but there's no hope he'll become as good as CP3 before he retires. Gilbert is a PG that we need. Even though he's a shooting-first PG like BDavis, he's gonna do something effective when our team is on peril. Gilbert is gonna stand out when our team is in danger, instead of crying as tmac was doing in the 7th game of the series againest Mavs. Gilbert is quicker and smarter than tmac, and his shooting skills are even not at the same level with tmac. We could have defeated the j*zz twice in the past two seasons if we had Gilbert instead of Tracy McGreedy. if the wizards now offer me a trade that trading AZ for tmac, I'd definitely accepted. No scruples, morey, trade him at every chance possible.
Is it just me or does Arenas get a pass for this, while T-Mac gets mocked non-stop for his playoff failures -- despite playing 40+ minutes against much tougher playoff competition? Maybe it's just me.
It's not just you. While in the East Gilbert had more help than T-mac did. Then T-mac moved to the West and just faced teams that Houston didn't matchup well against.
2 things that are more important than comparisons to most posters. 1. player salary 2. prior expectations Those 2 things make people angry and anger breads hate. The truth is that he played on a superstar level for a few years, got a huge salary, got traded to Houston and has declined to about Arenas' level. Arenas' career has gone the other way, therefore no one hates him.
Expectations make a world of difference. Say, Tracy goes to college and he's 4 years older now. He would be older, expectations would be lower, and his decline wouldn't be as frustrating.
So this is the basic conclusion I get from you guys. We likely wouldn't have been any more successful with Gilbert Arenas (in terms of winning playoff series). But people wouldn't be blaming Arenas as much either, since he wouldn't have the same expectations thrust on him. So I wonder who we'd be directing all our anger towards, if we don't have T-Mac. Would Yao be taking more heat?
think pre-Pau, pre-developed Bynum Lakers. Yao is the Kobe and Arenas is the Odom of the team. The team isn't expected to do much. Tracy Mcgrady was brought in to be the Kobe to Yao's Shaq. Unfortunately, Tracy's no Kobe and Yao's no Shaq. Tracy has been declining and Yao has yet to become the dominant force he was expected to become.
It is funny that you mention Yao here. Yao is injury-prone so we should trade him for DH12. Well, T-Mac is ... you know... better than Arenas. I got your point. Nice try.
