Great point. A team that consistently over acheives for the talent on the roster and one of the most valuable franchises according to Forbes. Good management.
I don't doubt Morey. Its hard to argue the front office hasn't done well given all the crap that's been thrown their way. I know some people want the guy gone, but i feel their opinions have more to do with an irrational need to find a scapegoat for our frustrations. I personally think itd be a mistake to let him walk, but was just curious as to whether that saying about being too smart for your own good applied to us. What i mean by that is that It sucks seeing big market teams make blunder after blunder and still have things work out their way. Effin New York, what with their acquiring 3 superstars in such a short span. Has nothing to do with their management skills or financial prudence and everything to do with their location. How do you compete with that? Our coaches players and mgmt overachieve just to be relegated to irrelevance. We are like the studious nerdy kid who watches others cheat their way through school and still land a better job.
It's pretty difficult to improve a team with Les constraining him so much. If he were allowed to develop the younger guys and trade away the vets (Scola, Martin, Dally) maybe this team could be headed in the right direction in the long run. But Les only wants to float along in waters of mediocrity.
To be fair, Morey has followed the Boston model. Pardon my use of the word, but we had a lot of good assests, Brooks, Lowry, knicks picks that looked good, a guy who was drafted number 9, and kevin martin Look at what the Dwill trade was for, a lot of draft picks, a prospect, and a veteran. Here's the problem, with the exception of Dwill there are no superstars that have the right amount of leverage for us. Dwill's contract expired in two years, putting pressure on Utah (as opposed to a long term deal) but not letting him go (as we see with expirings, where the player has a lot of leverage).
can't rebuild without tanking. Astros tried it and failed and by doing so a lot of value in Roy and Berkman was lost.
