Indeed. The sad thing is I don't at all mind the general notion of a woman as president, and when she was picked (and I had never heard of her), I thought to myself "well that's a good pick to counter Clinton... I bet this Palin woman is really sharp, sharper than most men, to have gotten to the position she's in right now." Boy was I wrong about that. I still don't understand how anyone takes her seriously. Just about every time I hear her speak for any reasonable length of time, I think to myself "this woman just straight-up isn't all that bright, or informed." Had McCain picked just about anyone except her, man or woman, I really believe he would've won a few more states.
the palin phenomenon is truly baffling. when i first heard her speak at the announcement of her being the vp running mate, i said to myself, she seems decent. then she gave the same speech at the convention almost exactly, and i was a little less impressed. then she started giving the interviews, and i'm like wow, she's terrible. I can't stand newt's politics, but I can understand him being a legitimate candidate. I can see that with most republican politcians. but palin, its a mystery. she's the paris hilton of national politics, not calling her an airhead, but her popularity has only lasted because she's popular. newt, cheney, limbaugh, are pushing the debate on several issues, she's just out there as the woman who solidified the base.
She's supposedly a political monster. Like a backwater Pelosi plus T&A minus teeth dealing with other monsters in Congress.
Obama has moved very very quickly on a lot of issues. Stimulus package GM/Chrysler Credit Card Reform Bill Healthcare Reform Gitmo Removal of the deferral tax loophole War Meeting with foreign leaders to repair relations Not to mention his multiple town hall meetings on these issues. Whether this will be good or bad remains to be seen. I'm afraid he's running himself ragged at this pace. I can't imagine McCain attempting this much this soon.
If McCain had won, i think we'd be in a tailspin foreign policy wise. The clouds were already gathering on the chess board. Obama has made some very cerebral moves regarding countries from Germany to Russia to Israel in the first 6 months... foreign policy wise, its a B+ at least.
