List out the bad things of him as well. Has no business in knowing anything about the draft. Does not know how to develop rookies. Doesn't care about draft possibilities or orders. You may think that is small, but we missed on a player named Brandon Roy because of a useless game we won. Doesn't change, got outcoached by a rookie. (Avery Johnson)
we went to two game 7s against way better teams with jvg. other than tmac and yao, our team was pretty atrocious. now with scola, landry, brooks, artest, barry as newcomers i think we make it to the wcf with jvg at least.
I never liked RA over JVG. Though JVG is very mediocre in offense, his defense is superb and he is more suitable for the talents of the current team. The big-three, Yao is probably the slowest player of the league, Tracy is traditionally of low energy, Ron depends more on his strength rather than quickness to thrive. They are more suitable for set plays for which JVG is way better than RA, who virtually does not call plays during the game. RA's system emphasizes speed, fast reaction, passing the ball. Now you have three guys who demand the ball, are average or below in speed, how can RA's system thrive? JVG's system is more like, OK it is predictable, but let's see if you can stop this. He will most certainly have some plays running again and again and again, slow but talented guys must like it, no?
They would still be struggling....the pieces do not fit right....too many players that need the ball in their hands to succeed and only one ball. DD
Really? Now, if you read my other posts, I have mentioned Jeff's weaknessees as well. Mainly to do with rookies. Landry and Brooks would not have received playing times. So count that out. Hell, even Scola might not have been played looking at Jeff's record with foreign players. And, should I remind you those series? 1st series with Jeff. 2-0, fans had this in mind (including me) "Damn, we got this easy." In fact it wasn't easy. Jeff got outcoached by a rookie coach. He didn't want to change, and a rookie coach wanted to. What does that equal to? A 40 point loss in game 7. 2nd series with Jeff. 2-0, fans had this in mind (including me) "Damn, we got this easy." What happened? Poor executions. Now, mind you, we went to the playoffs last season. And last season we had Rick. We were already doomed with Yao not being able to play, but this was when I noticed Tracy's decline on his defense. Not going through pricks, not putting hands up, leaving his man wide open instead of trying to close him out. His defense was getting lazy. And as we have gotten a lot better in paper, so has the rest of the West. And with a coach who won't change and was to stubborn to develop younger players, I doubt we would have gone to the WCF. He had only two plays on offense. 1. Pick and Roll with Tracy and Yao. Now, you obviously can't do that. Tracy has declined way too much, he can't shoot over a pick and all his shots are flat. 2. Throw Yao down low. Great, isn't that what most posters are complaining about Rick? Playing him too much? Not to mention, this still brings the problems we have now. Turnovers off of entry pass. Yao still turning the ball over. Some players able to stop Yao. Offense is doing nothing but standing and waiting around the 3 point line. I don't know what you guys see in Jeff. Great guy, but not a good coach.
Wow, the hypocrisy of some people. When JVG coached us to another 1st round playoff exit, most people in Houston wanted him out, I personally did myself. And it doesnt surprise me that with 8 games already into the season, people already want Rick Adelman out. Thats the bandwagon fans of Houston that we have to deal with time and time again. What Ive been reading so far into this thread is that they are willing to return to half court offense. Dont get me wrong, its a system that works but only with traditional teams. You have to consider the change in pace of offense of majority of the NBA teams. In addition, the realization that Tmac wont be 100% for awhile, Yao isnt the fastest center in the league, and the fact that Adelman has setup a team that will be more offensive minded. And if people decide that "well, our defense has won games for us when JVG was there.." And what I say to those people is this: last season, the Rockets were 2nd in opponent FG%, the 1st being the Celtics. They were 1st in defensive rebounds per game. They didnt change their defensive scheme significantly and still managed to produce good defensive numbers. The bottom line is this: Tmac's injuries have significantly affected his athleticism and skill now. The guy has a bum knee, shoulder, and back. Hes not gonna play 110% every night, everyone knows that. Ron Artest is trying to fit into a system that already has two strong offensive players. And since Steve Francis (again, of old), the Rockets havent had a strong PG. Rick Adelman's system can thrive under a pass first PG. Mike Bibby was his guy because he didnt want to score 20-25 pts a night, he was looking to dish it out to C Webb, Peja, even Vlade for god's sake. And Yao, well Yao is Yao, he can get the job done when you get him the ball (majority of the time). Solution: You have to give it some time. Adelman has improved our offensive scheme so much more than what most people expect. Turnovers are down from what they used to be. And when offense clicks, it CLICKS. The Phoenix game was a perfect example. But with such a big move during the off season, it will take time for everything to work properly. And chemistry is a important factor too. You gotta trust who youre playing with, and the team is beginning to work significantly in a better direction. Yeah, most people are tired of waiting, they want to see results now before the durability of both Yao and Tmac (whatever durability they have left) completely disappears. (Just be thankful youre not a Chicago Cubs fan...100 years...100 YEARS)
Adelman's problem is that he think this team is the Sacramento Kings. He's never had a dominant center and doesn't know how to utilize one effectively. EVERYONE in the league knows he is misusing Yao. No other team in the league would use Yao the same way we are.
If JVG were still the coach, the same problems would be there......JVG is gone, he is not coming back..... Adelman is fine.....he just needs to figure out the rotation, and whether or not Tmac is wearing his tampon for that particular game. DD
Finally, some one has the same thought with me thank you. Adelman sucks. Where is the fking offense system he promised? All he ever did was letting players play one on one and call time out at end of the 4th quarter. ROX will never go anywhere with him Adelman also likes to shake his head and cover his ugly face with his hands.
