The reality is that Yao has some sort of growth hormone abnormality ( from his pituitary gland) that accounts for his height.. Unfortunately, like most other pituitary giants, the ankles and feet do not grow enough to carry the height, weight, and stresses applied by that type of body.. The problem will happen over and over if he keeps playing

Yao had a CHOICE OF PLAYING ON AND RISK ending up as a CRIPPLED or retiering and enjoy and getting on with the next chapter of his life which includes enjoying his family and whatever business ventures it may include. Not a really hard choice if you ask me.

What if we just focus on the roster that we have right now and leave the past in the past.

Threads started by those who joined in July or August of 2012 are not to be taken seriously, with a few exceptions. This is not one of those exceptions.

How many comeback attempts are enough to appease his fans? He's had what...3 already? Let it go. As exciting as he was he was also a major buzz-kill.

Yao has been through more pain then any of us will ever know. Child birth might be up there with it. Foot injuries are no joke, I can't emphasize that more. If it didn't hurt him so bad he might of stayed on. Look we all wish he could come back but what happened to him was so horrible that he'll be lucky not to have a Mchale type of limp the rest of his life. I'm pretty sure the doctors told him if he gets hurt again he might lose the ability to walk without assistance.

The Lakers game 1 that is like his epitaph...like Heath ledger's Joker
Yao was great, KG called him the MVP in Dec. of 2006 before the
"no one can fing stop me"- then breaks a leg on a freak accident against
the same team he quoted to them, the clippers, only he was right no
one could stop him except, for, chuck Hayes I believed was the one who fell on his leg after what was going to be. "block for the books, under YAO, wow"

-he went up, and knew he was the best, he came down, and from then on
the curse of injuries took over. A big me that hurts a leg once, at that size,
usually would never have the strength back.

His determination, and heart for basketball brought him back, stronger, mentally, physically....but the frame was just not to be. Some say he should havenot added so much weight, what some don't understand that was pure
muscle he added. For his size after one injury his now not as slender frame,
lost weight as he rested, then added the muscle back on, thus the leg having to grow stronger. It did briefly, until he then had to undergo metal plates in his foot just to hold this guy up.

He took sacrifices, he does not need to come back, he will be a future HOF bc of what he did for the game, and himself in nature, even without a ring.
His memories will long live in my head for a second it was like a "dream"
I was too young for phi slamma Jammu, but grew up with dream in the L, and
That's DREAM...for a brief split second in time Houston was bk. on top
with the best big man in the game. It turned out he played far too many games
bc of his dedication to his national team & country.
His jersey will hang in the rafters, and just remember all the memories, and how he was the most single handily, the pest for the
Lakers, with Shaq n Kobe, and then, when it was Kobe on his run, Yao
owned the Lakers, and thus his career ended against that such team, and while he went out in game 3 of that series, we knew after GM 1 it was serious, but the man, went to the hallway, and said I'm fine, walked bk out, checked in, hit a 20 footer with ease, and the iced the game. It was a Walt Frazier performance that Pierce thinks he had...too bad it was the second rd. bc that was guts, that was his career, and that defined the man. He didn't think they couldn't win without
him, he just didn't want to let his teammates down, bc he was the man.
The man who carried a franchise on his back, and didn't complain, didn't
vent to the media (other than the refs), he was true character. A Houston
Rocket, may the man enjoy retirement, and not live Ina wheel chair. Thanks Yao.
Oh and thanks for another bring Yao thread!,
