He won't. By this time tomorrow he will have made it official. This is football not politics, the people have no say as far as draft picks go. Now some would say that fans have their say with their wallets and that is true. But winning will bring fans in, and even with drafting Young if the Texans keep losing, Reliant will be a tomb.

I think emails from fans for a celebrated hometown hero can easily influence a pick. It did with Hakeem.

You had email in '84? Smooth.

What you really need to do in a situation like this is set up an internet petition. As any Houston fan knows, those are foolproof.

p.s. The Texans are not deaf and dumb. They're well aware of the public outcry in favor of VY. They are apparently not swayed by this. You must redouble your efforts - write the governor, call your congressmen, hire skywriters, whatever it takes until you feel your voice has been heard.

Just don't start any more VY-related threads.

lol about '84 email, but you understood that I meant public outcry did influence the Hakeem decision. He was huge around here. Jordan was also talked about being the number 1 pick all over.

Right now, I think the choice of coach will be the biggest factor. Dan Reeves coached Carr before, so he would go Bush. Gary Kubiak also said he loves Young.

Cire. Thanks for the email address.

I sent them an email telling them I stand behind their decision to draft Reggie Bush, I mentioned that it was the correct football decision and told them to keep up the good work.

Thanks again for the address, I had no idea how to get that previously.

How old were you in '84? I don't remember a public outcry.

When did Dan Reeves coach Carr in the past? When did Kubiak say he loved Young?

I'm not saying we would get a first rounder for Carr, but some of your expectations are far too low. Trade value for running backs is far different than it is for quarterbacks. Far different. Quality running backs come out of the late rounds (Domanick Davis, Lee Suggs, Rudi Johnson) all the time. Franchise quarterbacks are harder to find. People are willing to take the risk.

In the last two years, Edgerrin James, Shaun Alexander and Travis Henry may not have gotten second round picks. You know who did? A.J. f'n Feeley. And he wasn't half as talented or proven as Carr... he simply had a mediocre 5 to 6 game stretch where he appeared he might be able to be a quality quarterback that didn't make the mistake... nothing more. And that commanded a second round pick. I'm aware he was cheaper than Carr, but that's offset because Carr clearly has worlds more talent.

Another example? Well, we've talked about him a lot on this board, but how about Chris Simms? He's restricted, and the Bucs will tender him the highest offer, so any team signing him would give up a first round pick at a minimum... and Mortensen reported Sunday that despite that price, there are still teams very interested in him (specifically the Lions and Dolphins) that would give up a first round pick. And for all the praise Simms gets, if you look at the numbers, he had a very similar year this year (in his third season) to the one Carr had last year (in his third season).

Again, I'm not necessarily saying it's a sure bet we'd get a first rounder, but teams are always willing to gamble on young, talented quarterbacks. The trade market for QBs (in terms of draft picks) isn't remotely close to what it is for running backs. If Feeley can get you a second, and Simms can get you a first and a third... I'm not convinced that all we'd get for Carr is a third rounder. Maybe I'm wrong, but we'll see.

Did you notice that the dolphins made that trade for Feely and it is them and the Lions interested in Simms. Simms is also only been a starter for one year so people are more inclined to take him.

Late round quarterbacks usually don't get a chance to play. They are drafted as backups and not given the same chance like RBs who split time with other backs. If Drew Bledsoe doesn't get hurt, do we even know who Tom Brady is.

Brady, Favre, Volek, Plummer were not first round picks. I don't think that anybody is going to give up a first rounder. At this point I think that a late second rounder is about as good as they could get. I'm on the side of trading the pick to find very valuable help on defense and offensive lineman through trading down in the draft. QBs are the biggest gamble no matter where you take them.

How about offering Carr and Andre Johnson to the Saints or Titans? Would they do a deal for their pick then and if so, how many here would be willing to give up AJ for the chance to have a backfield of Young and Bush together?
