I miss all my favorite restaurants I miss my slutty female friends I miss playing ball there I miss getting stuck on traffic during rush hour and still get home within an hour or so. Where I'm at, you get stuck in traffic, you better call some people cus you'll be 3 hours late. I miss the cheap bowling costs at UH I miss driving on the right side of the street I miss the semi cold weather during the winter without the hassle of dealing with snow I miss the gettow there I miss astroworld even though it's been gone years before I left I miss the fact that I lived there more than half my life and still haven't been to NASA I miss 59 and I miss Polk st.
I have to add to my list: 1) Food: Best place to get great, authentic food... 2) Heat: The hot sticky feeling you get in the summer when it's too damn hot... 3) People: Let me elaborate, the diversity and ethnicity... 4) People (Part deux): Hot chicks...based on #3 above... 5) Cost of living... Of course i miss being able to see the Stros', Rox and Texans all the time...As an aside, I went to a garage sale down the street from my parents...The best thing I picked up EVAH...It was a Houston Rockets x-mas ornament (back to back championship version) for $0.50...nice...
Buffets in Houston are the best. Make you feel like crap, but they are the best. And, A_3PO is the most pessimistic poster I've read in my 7 years here; that's saying a lot.
1) PACE - The Alabama song In a Hurry and Don't Know Why is seemingly every other major city I've been to. There isnt as much hustle and bustle and pushiness in Houston compared to other big cities. Houston's like an oversized small town at times. 2) People - Yes there's some deep south jack-offs. But mostly people are more neighborly and MUCH more loyal and authentic. Not that it matters much now but a guy doesnt have to be all flambouyant and metro'ed out either. 3) Living Space - Some parts of Houston have traffic, as compared to entire COUNTIES of traffic in Southern Cal. Then little things, like crashing an empty softball field playing home run derby at NIGHT as though the city gave you keys. (the "party at the moon tower" feel) 4) Landscape - lack of a better term, meaning the offerings of the city. No its not luxurious and "touristy" like other places but Houston definitely has the basics covered. Shopping, eating, places to drink, parks, water (kinda). 5) Cost of living - I havent lived enough adult life in Houston to feel the difference in cost of living but I bet its better than here.
I just thought of something that I miss. I miss waking up in the morning (10:00 or so) in the summer to the drone of the cicadas. That to me is the sound of Houston.
I'm moving to Colorado for college next years. I'll miss... Rockets games texans games Dynamo Games James Coney island Thai Spice however, I am looking forward to snow and skiing every weekend
I miss houston too. Im thinking of making a trip down the weekend of the 19th.. in a couple weeks. You think the playoffs would have started by then? It would be cool to go to the game or even just watch it with friends like old times
It's funny 'cause it's true. I actually lived next door to a guy in denTON who gave up on the Rockets in favor of the Mavericks. Needless to say, I was forced to kill him, lest he shame himself more. I'm fairly certain he's picked his home team back up. What did I miss about Houston when I was living out of town? Family aside, it's pretty simple: Astros. Rockets. Lopez.Oh, and my ex-girlfriend. I missed her too.
I like the people here because everyone is so laid back (except on the freeways) Freeway system is actually very efficient when it's not packed with cars (ie. between 10pm and 6am) Two words: Tex Mex. It's all about Los Cucos. Being an hour away from a beach. Galveston ain't exactly Cabo, but a lot of big cities are nowhere near a beach. We're pretty lucky. Low cost of living. No State tax Convenient strip centers (that's right, I said it) LOTS of trees (more than Austin)
I miss the humidity, believe it or not. When we moved back down there from ABQ... I was in heaven. Moving from dry desert back to the "soup" was awesome to me. No joke. Now in Dallas, we get a little humidity last weekend and I was like "Oh man, it's like Houston!! " while others where complaining. I just miss H-Town... sooooo much. I miss me some KPRC News2Houston... I miss me some Houston Sports highlights every day... I miss everything down there... Dang it... I just may find a way to move back (I need a change of pace/scenery anyway... I'm tired of being tired of Dallas). EDIT: Crap, ima! You had to mention "Los Cucos!!!" Road trip!
-Family and friends (goes without saying). -Churrascos + other Central/South Am and Carrib cuisize -Papadeuxs/Cajun prepped fresh Gulf seafood -Arrandas Panderia -Double Daves Pep rolls -Those Polish morning bready susuage/cheese filled things -Cecil's (don't even know if still there) -Rockets -Oilers (gives an idea when I left) Most other things I have adequate replacements in Tucson and/or Bay Area where I have lived since.
My family moved from Houston when I wasn't even 10 years old.. and almost every day I think about how much I miss just bein able to go over to visit family on a sunday afternoon... hang out with a few of my cousins... and just that sense of family that I get whenever i come back.
Yes, the humidity sucks – but the good thing about it is that it’s good for your skin. That’s one of the reasons there are so many good looking women here. And the reason we won’t look like Leatherface when we get older.
I was watching the Hungy Detective on Food Network HD, actually, TimeWarner just added 20 HD channels...WooHoo!!! They were focused on Houston and it reminded me about the great food that I miss...They went to Mai's, Breakfast Klub, Goode BBQ among others...mmm...I at least get there about twice a month so I tend to eat a lot when I'm there...
I hear you, gamz. I lived in the D for a little over two years and missed most of the things you mentioned. After being back home in Htown for almost a year, I miss some things about Dallas but prefer Houston by a long shot. Houston defintely has better people...that was the only thing I hated about Dallas. F*in $30,000 Millionaires I think Dallas had better looking women by a long shot, but Houston has hot chicks and they are MUCH more down to earth I miss some Dallas restaurants, though. Manny's Uptown, Taverna, Zaguan (awesome venezuelan bakery off Oak Lawn), TABC, Idle Rich Pub, etc...
Whataburger and Shipleys Donuts. Being able to see the Rockets and the Stros more than once or twice a year.
Yeah, I hate Dallas in General. All those damn hicks are so uptight. Houston is way more chill than big D but not as chill as Austin.
