Well, I was in town this past weekend and had a great weekend...My son had opening day for baseball and spend time with family and friends...Weather was halfway decent, plus, I had some bad azz BBQ and James Coney Island too... We went downtown Saturday night and it was kind of lame, but Mia Bella's was nice...An observation from my girl was that there sure are alot of gentlemen's clubs along I-45... I guess I bring this up because the one thing that I truly miss are the people...People are just so much nicer and approachable, IMHO...You just don't get that feeling in Dallas... For those out of town, what do you miss the most? For those in town, what do you like the most?
LMAO...that made me laugh...I know, sounds corny but you get a different feel for people in Houston...Everyone is so much nicer...Plus there were some hot women too, but I digress..
Too many things! Everything! I've been gone for almost 12 years and it seems like 20. The one thing I notice when I do go back, is how much more alive I feel. More alert, more happy, more everything. Family, friends, food, Rockets, Galveston, the color green, blue bell ice cream, Magnolia Park, the Heights, the bayous, sweating, the lights of the ship channel, the Sidney Sherman bridge, Rice Epicurean, pickup basketball games, hole in the wall bars, the Gulf Freeway, live R&B music, the carniceria across from burnet elementary, Old Galveston Road and many other things........And the people.
My friends, but I'm in Austin now, so not too much else. I do hate that I don't get Rockets, Astros, and Texans games like I did when I lived in Brenham and College Station. Everything is Spurs for basketball, the others are hit and miss.
I miss being able to go to a Rockets game without taking a 200 + mile drive. Miss my friend that still live there as well.
Miss the people most. A freeway system that makes sense. Friday Nights at #'s nightclub. Live Astro's and Rockets games.
Im in Boston... I miss open space, excess parking space, large apartments, and cheap rent. I miss seeing hot girls every time I turn my head. I miss warm weather. I miss all my food places. I miss watching my sports teams every day, following it on ESPN just sucks. I love Houston.
I'm in Austin, so I miss... The East End. A real skyline. Empire Cafe. Riding my bike from the East End to Allen Parkway and back. Friends. Family. Rockets. Dynamo.
Aside from the Rockets (I've actually gone to more games since I moved away, since I try to make it a point to always go to at least one if possible when I come home to visit) The diverse food Wide open spaces hanging out at Two Rows or Chaamps and watching the game while throwing back one or three going out with the boys good Mexican food Chick-fil-A the weather (yes, even in July/August) Thank GOD I'm coming home for good in 2010!
Great thread. I was just in Houston for spring break this past week, and god do I miss it (I'm in Cambridge, MA). I miss the weather: the warm mugginess and the smell of freshly cut grass that lets you know that you're home. I miss the sun radiating throughout your entire house, like God's smiling and reminding you to enjoy life. I miss speeding down the enormous freeways with the radio blasting and just letting the road dissipate your worries. I miss the buffets, oh the buffets: Ryan's, Golden Corral, Todai, Kim Son. Yes, we may be the fattest city, but we're also the happiest. Most of all, I miss the people- the friendly cashier, the personable mailman, my girlfriend, my family...*sigh* There's no place like home, and Houston is bliss.
Only thing i miss about that place is this restaurant called The Brownstone....wonder if it's still there....
I love the endless stripcenters. I love thossseeee Strip Centers I love the traffic. I love pollution. I love the smog. This is God's country.
I miss the friendly people. The diversity. The awesome food. I could do away with the weather though. Nothing like home.
