Of course suck outs happen, but when you are a decent player, they happen more often AGAINST you than FOR you.....

If you are a substantial favorite, when all the chips are in, the odds are usually in your favor......but I think the worst thing about poker is the luck factor.....

You can be the best in the world and get beat by luck, and I think that sucks....even though I know it is part of the game.

I win way more often than lose, but I don't like to lose....EVER....especially to bad players.....

I take the Phil Helmuth approach, if you took away the luck, I would never lose.

that's b/c as a "good" player, you know when you've got the worst of it, you know you're hoping for a miracle if you call, so you DON'T make the call for the most part.

bad players will call you more often when they have crap, hoping to catch b/c they don't understand the game. of course, the more bad calls your opponents make, the likelihood of them sucking out also goes up.

I seriously do not see how anyone can make a consistent profit at any backdoor poker room. The blind structure is a joke, everyone thinks they are on ESPN, the rakes are suspect, dealers are r****ded, props everywhere, the owners hustle their own players, even the tournaments and freerolls are bingo poker untill the first or second break, and they are full of fish. I think I am a good enough player to beat two or three fish at a table, but a table made up of 6-7 donkeys and 2-3 good players, I'll lose more often then I win.

I mostly played online. Before US bans were imposed by alot of sites I played at nearly all of em, I signed up for every single 100% deposit match I could find.

I can see the frustration, but, honestly, this isn't just true of Texas Hold 'em - that's how it is with all card games. Luck beats skill every time.

My biggest peeves about poker (on-line or real-life) are people who complain about the way other people play. (Note that the original poster was not complaning about the other players; just losing on bad luck!)

It can't tell you how many times I've heard other players complain about people raising when they don't think you're "supposed" to or calling all the way to the river and then lucking out or just playing tight. If you want to play against totally "predictable" players then play a computer. Isn't one of the points of poker is that you are playing against the other player and not the cards? Isn't that's where the skill comes in? It's the ability to learn your oponents habits and quirks and, over the long run, use them against them?

And the people that I'm refering to (at least in the real-life games) are talking under their breadth to the person next to them so the object of their critique can't hear them so it's not like they are trying to rattle their nerves.

I remember one game where, whenever I was in position and had a reasonable hand, I would raise (which is what your supposed to do, isn't it?). That drove everyone else crazy (especially the guys to my left) as they all called (or posted a blind) and were hoping to see the flop for cheap. My goal was to force those guys (especially the blinds) to really consider their cards. If I just call, they see the flop and may get lucky with their 7/4 off suit. If I raise they probably fold those cards and my odds go up.

I remember another game where I was playing very tight because I was very low on funds so the same guy who was complaining about someone playing loose on the other side of the table started complaining because I was too tight! What the hell do you want?

no joke played at this one room a couple times the guy that ran it would always jack the pots up. didnt matter what he lost in hands because he made hell of a lot more from the rake.

That's why you see the same guys at final tables all the time.

This is a myth....you do not see the same guys at finals tables....

Sometimes you do...but for the most part...not.

People who don't play enough poker don't realize that luck doesn't trump skill. If you think that, play more poker (and get better). It's all about expected value. Once you know how to extract the max value out of your hands, then in the long run, you can be a winner.

I was playing at a cash game on campus at school on Thursday, was up a lot and this guy was pissed. He just got completely donkey by some guy and lost all his money, so he rebuys and goes all in on the first hand. Lucky me, I get AK so I know I have to call because he is on tilt and doesn't have ****. I call him and he flips over 93. And he beats me with a 3. LOL.

I still kicked his ass and took my money back. Didn't get much homework done that night, but I will be eating off of my winnings for the next 3 weeks. :D

I'd be interested, but only if it was very low stakes. I'm a complete noob at Texas Hold 'em and I'm not gonna start losing a bunch of money at the beginning.
