What part of my example do you not understand.

I guess I'll give an example. You go to the store to buy a pencil. The grocery store has to pay taxes too, you know?

The grocery raises the price of the pencil to pay for their taxes. The grocery store doesn't make pencils, it buys them from a pencil company.

The Pencil company pays taxes which are incorporated into the price of their product. Now since the pencil co. doesn't have a pencil making tree, they go to other manufacturers for their supplies.

The Wood for example, has to be purchased from some other distributor, which also pays taxes which they also incorporate into their product. Etc, etc., and so on.

    Does that help?

Well, first off, I don't believe companies pay sales taxes on non-consumer products, so the only taxes these intermediary companies are paying are on profits. Thus, the cost of taxes aren't being added to the price of the item, because the cost of the item is determining the taxes.

However, if you want to try this ridiculous analogy, be my guest. Put numbers to all this. I promise you that if you use realistic numbers, you'll never get close to 70%.

But hey, if you want to say the rest of the world doesn't know what they are talking about and you know it all, feel free. Just don't expect to have a rational discussion about it with anyone.

Wasn't the original point of this thread a sort of plea to provide information with an eye towards (re)informing FFB's political opinion? Man, what a weird turn of events.

I'm glad I'm not an embittered, worthless, whiney lib who trafficks in ignorant stereotypes and general gimcrackery. You are perhaps the most worthless lib poster (besides Batman Jones) who wastes bandwidth with your gutter trash.

And Andymoon, does this sound like a conspiracy theory to you?

Conspiracy theory? I think not. I wish it wasn't true, but your boy Clinton was a self-serving traitor, plain and simple.

Andy, I respect you, but I've got to debunk this attitude of yours that I am some kind of conspiracy theory whacko. I shall continue:
I guess CNN, no conservative media outlet, is in the business of conspiracy theories, right?

    link
I'm interested to see how you liberals will try to spin that. Face it, Monicagate was a smokescreen to protect Bill Clinton from more serious offenses. This is the sort of thing that I believe should have been impeachable. I know many of you will scream "coincidence," but in my line of work, there is no such thing as coincidence.

    Heee!

I will appropriate the word 'gimcrackery' from your mountain patois. In reading up on the good Mister Clarke (speaking of embittered, worthless and whiney!) I came across the once known but since forgotten expression 'jiggery-pokery,' which I have endeavored to use at least once per day. So, yeah, thanks!

Anyway, lest we be left with the impression that Clinton was the only prominent US leader involved in, umm, jiggery-pokery with the Chinese, I would direct your attention to Engineered Support Systems, Inc., who recently sold $13 million worth of radar detection systems to the Chinese. (I find 'Chicoms' a little cultish sounding, but hey, you go!) Who's a board member of Engineered Support Systems? Why, Bucky Bush, one of GHWB's brothers! Another brother, Prescott, has had extensive dealings with the Chinese, but I'll let you google around on your own to see what sort of gimcrackery he's been up to over the years.

Your response is so boringly PREDICTABLE. Instead of saying that what Clinton did was horrible, you replied "Well, Bush's brother did it too!" Do you have a moral compass? You don't even deny what Bill Clinton did because you KNEW IT TO BE TRUE. You certainly didn't deny it! It doesn't bother you that the PRESIDENT of the U.S. sold us out for some campaign contributions? If Bush did what Clinton did, I'd be just as mad. Regardless of party affiliation, you've got to admit that is pretty damning.

As for Bush's brother's alleged whacky dealings, I found it on a consistently anti-American newspaper site, the St. Petersburg Times (Russia), which seriously challenges the validity of your charge. I googled it and found it only on the kind of left-wing propaganda websites you probably inhabit.

I guess you took a look in your thesaurus for the word "patois" to show me what a "smart" guy you are. Yeah......I'm convinced.

Justice May Probe Links Between China Policy, Campaign Cash

Seems to me that the important part is not the accusation, but the substance. What did the Justice probe conclude?

I know the GOP did its typical weak-at-the-knees routine when it came to our national security and Clinton. They did it this time as well. Instead of going after him both barrels blazing, they wasted their political capital on the Lewinsky b.s. The sad thing about it is you liberals are so consumed with your ideological hatred that you can't even see one of your own sold us down the river.

    In the hopes that you will be able to follow this, I'll type it v e r y s l o w l y .

I do not like Clinton. I am neither a Democrat nor a Clinton apologist. I freely acknowledge that his presidency was responsible for all sorts of bad things. I am sceptical of how much he had to do with the booming economy over which he presided. When he was caught with his pants down I wish he'd said, Look, it's none of your f'ing business rather than lie about it. Etc.

I am also aware of the fact that he balanced the budget and (as I've said before) signed all sorts of right-leaning legislation that GHWB could never have pushed through. So I remain a bit flummoxed by your antipathy.

So, sure, it bothers me how Clinton sold out the White House. It bothers me equally how GWB is doing the same. It bothered me enough last time around and the time before to vote for (and contribute to) Nader, and it bothers me enough now to support a kook like Kucinich.

By the way, what word would one reference in a thesaurus to come up with 'patois?' Just curious.

Not your fault, really...I don't think you were here for Fatty's thread about him being an uber-genius with a +180 IQ. Be afraid.

It is 172, actually. Look it up.:p

And I stand by my statements. I suppose ignorance is bliss at times. Sure, we only spend 30-40% on taxes. The government doesn't double-tax anything. Riiiggghhhtt.

    rimbaud: Yes, be very afraid.

nyr: It's difficult to divine irony in a redneck. Maybe I can help. "Patois" is jointly owned by the French and the gays. bama was clearly being ironic, since he indulges exceptions to his self-described "libertarian" nature to bash both on a regular basis. Well, okay, not "clearly." Wrong word -- I'm guessing since he's on a little bit of ignore since I figured out he never says anything that rises above the 'doodoo head' standard -- but if he used a word like patois he must have been trying - god bless him - at irony. He's trying, y'all. Don't beat him down too much.
