I can see where you are going with Yao and his development. Jeff developed him into a dominant big man, but Yao was a number one pick. Developing players like Yao, Wade, Durant, and any stars is not a hard thing to do. Finding the right players like Brooks in the low first round pick is hard. Again, I stated the 2-0 lead to counter act against some people's attacks against Rick. I was trying to state that that using that logic is completely useless because Jeff wasn't any better. I don't hate Jeff. I just don't think he is the right coach. He had the players that he wanted (Knicks players) and I thought C.D. did a great job giving him players that can contribute, like Stromile Swift, Bonzi Wells, Derek Anderson, and so on. But more likely than not, Jeff clashed with them. And all my posts in this thread is just defend Adelman because several posters are just blaming Rick just after a season and few games.
I am not blaming him for anything. If we are .500 in Feb thats OK for me. Just get in the playoffs. I am saying WTF has he done that is different? If you are serious about Swift (the r****d) Bonzi (the doughboy) and broken down DA being good players I feel sorry for you.
ur dumber than i think u are. w the Queens ahead by 2, the only way the Lakers win is a 3. and if Shaq grab the rebound, foul him. chances that he would miss at least one. even if Shaq makes both, it is still a tie game. so what ? when your team is ahead w seconds to go, you need to protect the lead. did u even see the play ? Divac made a good play by tipping it away from Shaq. this stupid remark gives away your ignorance. Horry had his feet set, got his leg behind the long-3. very sound mechanics. he was able to do that---without rushing it---because he was left wide open. what a stupid post.
He didn't have a 1st round draft during those 2 years. 05-06 was Head, he got minutes because of the injuries. Hayes got minutes basically for the same reason Landry got minutes, it wasn't because of injuries because we had Juwan Howard, Stromile Swift, Yao for 55 games and Mutombo. 06/07 was Novak, rarely got minutes, but was a 2nd rounder. And that leads us to Adelman. And LOL at the guy that brings up that Yao got minutes, he's a #1 pick. If he doesn't get minutes you should fire the coach immediately.
I wasn't talking about you when writing that. Jeff didn't really give the management any systems where they can the players for. Main reason because that his half court sets was the pick and roll between Tracy and Yao, and give it to Yao and have shooters. That worked great for him in the starting lineup, but our bench had no plays nothing going on. So management really didn't have type of players to look for except for shooters or veterans. Which is pretty much making our team older and slower. I was excited about Swift; I'm not going to lie. Tracy was excited about Swift; Swift was athletic and young. Something that we lacked. Derek Anderson brought in something different, a slasher. Something that we did not have. Bonzi brought us the potentially 3rd scorer. I understand that if we had Artest come off the bench, we didn't need any offense, but look at our bench. They have movement; they have plays! Right now, I don't know if Tracy will ever get Rick's offense, and it might not matter if we can find the right balance between Rick's offense and our stars' iso. Main difference as of now, is the bench's offense. How they are moving and setting plays.
calling me dumb or stupid does not make you look smart. i could report you to the mod, as all you do is calling people names without much real argument. and calling a team the "queens" does not change the fact that the lakers did not deserve to win it as they got too much help from the refs. everyone agrees to that except the lakers fans, which i suspect you are. btw, a bball 101 lesson for your continuing education (since we won the game tonight and i am in a good mood) - any 3pt shot like the one horry hit in the waning seconds, particularly off of an unexpected loose ball (as opposed to a called set play), is luck.
You cannot blame the coach for the team not providing players. Our bench just had no talent back then. Have you seen Head play this year? He was our best bench player under JVG except for Mike James (who has played in 8 games this year before getting benched then deactivated).
jvg's lack of talented players was due to the hangover of our terrible contracts. we were handcuffed at the time, thanks to rudy and dawson.
We will never know what Jeff could do with the talent in his bench. But... I just think that more likely than not, there was no way our 2nd unit would have the movement and plays under Jeff than Rick. And I'm not only looking at Jeff's stay with the Rockets, I'm looking back at the Knicks as well.
Well with the Knicks he took an 8th seed to the finals. JVG had great plays, its just they could not execute. You could put 5 clutchfans members and give them the best play in the world, I doubt they are gonna score a point on any NBA team. All I am asking is when he came here everyone talked about how much it would change Yao's game. Yao would be out ont he elbow Yao would be shooting jumpers. JVG long said Yao is dominant 5 feet from the rim and average or less than average anywhere else. To me it seems like Yao is scoring the EXACT same way he did under JVG.
True, its worth it to note that if you take out the injury plagued year where we missed the playoffs, we got better every season, and the only solid addition to the team (as in highly significant) was Battier. JVG could've done better on offense with Tmac and Yao in the line-up, but the guy did a lot of things right. He kept us in the top 3 in defense every year, he brought Yao from potential bust to consistant All-star. And he was a good transition from Rudy T to Adelman. Tmac became a Rocket under JVG, Hayes, Head and Battier became Rockets under JVG. He isn't the best coach ever by any stretch of the imagination, but if for some reason Adelman had to leave I would gladly take him back.
The JVG crud still lives on here. He's gone, and is as irrelevant as Nissalke. And if you haven't seen the offense start to click in the last six games when Yao has played, you aren't seeing what Adelman is adamant about doing. This isn't JVG ball you're seeing now and it's only going to get better.
I think this is one difference between JVG and Adelman. JVG didn't like Yao to wait for double teams. He wanted him to make a quick, decisive move. I remember him imploring Yao to just turn and shoot when he's single-covered. Yao had many opportunities to do this against the Heat today, but he elected to wait for the double teams and kick it out. I think that's what Adelman likes. He prefers to see the ball move to an open player, even if it requires a little more patience.
If I recall it right, Yao got many 3-second violation in the paint with JVG's game plan. It is the case with Aldelman's.
