    What happens if you lose or do not have the killer instinct? Is it impossible to survive? I've found it can break my wallet and my heart.

    It's actually very possible to survive, you just have to showcase your only other asset, your free time. Ultimately, however, it can be very gut-wrenching and you find yourself fighting a lot of hypothetical arguments days or years after the fact. Sobbing privately at the top of your lungs or just repeatedly side-punching the headrest on the passenger seat helps relieve the residual anger.
