I wish Jason Terry would come to H-Town...Imagine him wide open for 3 all night long with Yao and T-Mac drawing all the attention...it won't happen though (not enough $).

this is a bashing the dallas mavericks thread. to be fair no one asked him about the rockets prospects to which he might have had the same answer.

Well maybe not SA, but the other two for sure. We're talking Phx with Amare back and 100%. Rockets with Yao playing the way he did last season and T-Mac injury free...yead i'd definately put them ahead of Dallas.

despite the meltdown, they are still a very good team. i love it that they lost, but they are no where near done. The question is: Are they going to keep Jason Terry from leaving via FA, or are they going to Nash him too?

I think Cuban tinkers too darned much, and will go out and over react to their failings.

And, they will come back weaker next year.

The only person Dallas is losing is KVH and they have to resign Terry. Harris and Howard will only get better. I love the Rockets but to put them ahead of Dallas is crazy. Also if I was Phx I would be worried about Amare staying healthy for the entire season.

I meant to say that the play was ran for Dampier to get the ball back from Dirk, it wasn't a great pass or catch. They had the series just like Dampier almost had that pass. :)

Exactly. Right now Avery Johnson knows how to beat the Rockets. We cannot compete with their talent and quickness we will be second to the Mavericks for a while. SA will have to regroup, but in the west I think its all about Phx and Dallas right now.

    huh?????

Yes we can...with a healthy TMac and Yao.....

Yao is a LOT better now.....and Tmac is still one of the top 3 players in the league....

All we need are role players....and away we go.

Yeah well i said health permitting in my original post. No-one has absolutely any idea what could happen next season, but if we are healthy and add the right players...i can't see us being beaten by Dallas.

Thinking that the Spurs are on the decline is silly. None of the three stars are older than 30. They had some nagging injuries, and they've been contenders for a while, but they still have plenty of years left. NVE is old, but he didn't have much of a contribution this season. Barry is old, but all he is is a spot-up shooter. Horry is old, but was almost a non-factor in the playoffs. Finley might decline and is a valuable player, but he's replacable. Anyone who watched Tim Duncan in the playoffs knows he's not on the decline.

The Spurs have some older role players, but as long as they have Parker, Ginobili and Duncan in the prime of their careers (and there's no evidence other than wishful thinking to suggest they won't be), they'll be legit contenders and probably favorites in the division. The Spurs are still playing basketball right now in all likelihood if not for some incredibly questionable calls in the final moments of Games 3 and 4 in Dallas.

The Spurs don't have any regrouping to do. They were a couple of bounces and whistles here and there from again representing the West in the Finals, and they'll return the same cast next year. Some role players will be phased out, but it's not exactly hard to find quality role players when you have Duncan, Parker and Ginobili. Lots of guys can succeed with that talent around them.

I love the Rockets, and I'm a Rockets fan first, but anyone projecting teams like the Rockets or Suns to finish ahead of the Spurs is being absolutely silly. The Mavs probably won't either, but there's at least a leg to stand on with that one.

If wouldn't be THAT suprised if Dallas was able to get back to the finals next year... but you can't deny that a lot of things fell into place for them this year that they might not always be able to count on:

1.) Beat a defending champion Spurs team that always seems to find a way to lose when they're defending a championship... watch them have more motivation next year.

2.) Beat a Suns team that was missing their most explosive player, and a guy who was dropping 40+ on the Mavs just one year prior. The fact that the Suns still took the series to 6 games speaks volumes to what Stoudamire could have done for them.

3.) Didn't have to deal with a Rockets team that took them through a rough 7 game series the year before... and likely would have been just as tough with an improved Yao and healthy T-mac.

4.) Didn't have the stigma of "whiners" and "crybabies" as much as they're going to have going into next year... before this series, a lot of people around the US were indifferent to Cuban and the Mavs... after this series, a lot of people are just sick of their antics after losses.

No matter what happens for the Mavs in their future... it will be tougher than this year.

Since I can't stand Dallas, this hurts me to say this, but the Mavs are the favorites to win the WC crown next year at this point. Yes, they lost this series, but it could be argued that they outplayed the Heat in every game except one. Anyway, they have their young core coming back intact. Dirk has improved every year of his career, and I think he'll be hungry next year. Terry is not likely to improve, but he's a valuable 2nd scorer on this team (assuming he re-signs). Harris, who made huge strides this year, should improve, and Howard is a great role player who can improve.
However, if Dallas just runs in place, they'll get passed. Phoenix would have beaten Dallas with Amare and/or Kurt Thomas, so they could be scary next year (if they learn to play D). San Antonio will always be solid as long as Duncan and Pop are there. Our own Rockets have the potential to contend but they need their 2 stars to stay healthy and they need a better supporting cast.
The East will also be better with Cleveland, Detroit, Miami, and Indiana all looking like legit contenders. I think the Mavs may have lost their best chance to win a title, but I guess we'll have to wait and see.

I hate the Mavericks like the Palestinians hate Ariel Sharon..but they'll be contenders for a while. Dirk is an MVP level player and they are young, deep and versatile with Terry, Howard, Harris and Daniels on the outside and solid two-headed monster in the middle with Dampier and Diop. Plus, Cuban is driven and he will make whatever moves it takes to stay at this level.

Screw them, though. The Rockets will win another title before they do!

    :p

Cuban is going to blow up the team, re-sign KVH, and bring in Radmanovic and Peja. Three pointers for everybody!

And their point guard? Jalen Rose, of course
