^ See explanation No I was just being nostalgic for the days when we used to spray paint a car lake colors and then smash it to bits. They cut down on all the stealing of mascots and stuff. Life was so much more boring in the 90's.
yeah..when i was in junior high, T&C mall was brand new and it was packed all the time...by the time i came back to houston from college in 96, the mall, other than Dillard's, was closing at 7 every night! almost no traffic in there at all. my wife goes there with my son to be a mall walker and she says that's all that are in there now. no...Mountasia closed down about 5 years ago.
Farmer's Market and Ice Haus: This place was a giant flea market when I was a kid. You could get lost in there for hours. They also had an ice rink and the first skateboard park in Houston. The place was torn down to build Town and Country Mall. Oddesey four-wheeler race track: This was located around I-10 and Park Ten. Beat the hell out of any go-cart track in Houston. I'm sure insurance problems caused the demise of the track. Red Light District: Inner loop Westheimer before the HPD substation opened. Friday and Saturday nights back in the early eighties were kicken. People partying in the bumper to bumper traffic, Oriental Modeling studios (yeah right), Rocky Horror at the Alabama Theater, and tons of strip clubs.
Alabama Theater I think it's a Book Stop now. That is if I'm thinking of the same place. I saw Cyndi Lauper there.
wow...memories...I have been to alot of these places...I especially miss the drive in on 45...t was the last one in town and I remember going to that one real often when I was fresh out of HS..dont remember seeing lots of the movies tho... One place I really miss is the Tower Theater, saw several real good shows there...the last one before they closed it down was when I worked the Dream Theater show on their first tour. The Danzig show there was a good one also...he had White Zombie opening for him..good show.
My favorite place in Houston that closed down is Angelo's Fisherman's Wharf, near the Dome. All you can eat boiled shrimp and oysters on the half shell....BEFORE your entree arrives!!! Never much room for the entree. The other place in Houston that closed down that I miss is the Silhouette Lounge on Bellaire Blvd. My first titty-bar...along with all of the other 16 year olds in the neighborhood!!
This isn't too far back but the Laser Rock shows at the Burke Baker Planatarium used to be pretty sweet.... don't know why the ever killed those things...
that's too funny! my dad was really close friends with Eddie Angelo growing up. I remember eating there a lot, too.
Probably due to the THICK stench of weed emanating from the waiting area and theater itself. Laser shows ROCK! I think I saw every kind of laser show offered there (Laser Floyd, Laserpalooza, etc.)
Is the putt-putt place off of I-10 near Dairy Ashford (on the feeder) still there? Goony Golf: Had that giant T-Rex on one of the holes. It's long gone.
We used to eat there all the time from the late 60s to the late 70s. Whenever any of my relatives from NYC came to visit, we always took them there. Such a great place...I wish it were still around.
How about the piece of property at the corner of 59 South and 610 (southwest corner). It has been so many things over the years. I'm sure I'm forgetting some but I know it has been... A dirt bike track A water slide A fake ski slope An ampitheater (one of my first dates with my wife was to see porno for pyros and reverend horton heat there, my car got towed, we walked to richmond and got tanked on ritas) A nursery
I used to love Peppermint Park too. What's happened to Fun Plex btw? My sister goes to school in that area and when I drive by the place, I alwasy see some church buses in the parking lot. I hear that it's mostly teens hanging out at the arcade now, so I wouldn't want to take my little cousin there.

[/B][/QUOTE] man, we used to spend HOURS "cruising" westheimer!!!
