Rudy obviously knows what he has with Oz and Hopefully has told him he will hide him the rest of this tank season and sign him to a 6 year 45 million dollar deal so he can lead us to the NBA Title. Ugh, How do you do this dbc?
I thought Carl Herrera was the first Venezuelan-born NBA player. Any confirmation? Also, I don't know if it's fatigue that's keeping him off the court either. Torres isn't coming from the college system, he's coming from professional ball in South America. How many games did they play per season in the league he was in? If it's as few as college, than I can buy the rookie wall theory. If it's closer to what the NBA plays, he should be used to the schedule by now.
Carl Herrera lived in Venezuela, but he was born elsewhere. I believe Oscar's played ALL YEAR, like no months off, he went from the pro league to jumping into the summer league fighting for a job, and then he got his contract and showed up in preseason. Most NBA players at least get a month or two off, I'm not sure Oscar has had that. I'd compare his situation to what happened to players that participated in the Olympics in Australia and little to no time off in between seasons due to this...
Oscar needs to get more minutes. He should get all of TMo's minutes, and his current minutes combined. TMo doesn't seem to help us at all, but when Oscar's in the game, he always seems to make good things happen. Oscar works hard and is a good defender. I'm not saying TMo doesn't work hard, but he's not as good as Oscar.
In 23 minutes Tmo had 8 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists. In the garbage quarter Oscar had 7 points and goose eggs. He should NOT be getting all of Tmo's minutes.
Season in Venezuela started on March. Each team play 56 games, 4 per week. He didn´t play in postseason because he was with Venezuela in the South America Tournament (qualifier for the Tournament of the Americas). In that tournament he played in all 6 games for Venezuela. Then he played in the Tournament of the Americas (qualifier for the World Championship), that was 8 games. All that gives a total of 70 games in 5 months. Plus, all the summer league games (I don´t know how many he played), but it was around 10. That´s 80 games before the NBA season started. So I think he needs some rest, what do you all think?
DaDakota, I thought your signature was a joke. I just refuse to put smiley faces and emoticons on anything.
Well, I guess I can agree in a lot of ways... I mean if they Rockets continue playing Steve and Cuttino as much as they do now, the only achievements that could possibly be made this season would be purely individual. But on the other hand, you have to be slightly concerned with the issue of team morale. If Oscar and Moochie are playing 30 minutes a game and Francis and Mobley are merely looking on, the team is going to look a lot like it did in November and December when Steve had the ruptured plantar fascia and Cutttino was nursing a badly sprained ankle. That stretch utterly demolished any playoff hopes for the entire year; not only because of what the 15 game losing streak did to their record, but because things seemed so desolate that the team never got a chance to jell. True, an offseason does give a chance to erase the slate for next year; but if you go through another one of those stretches, some already fragile egos will be damaged irreparably when the role players realize that they cannot even begin to stack up against the rest of the NBA's more elite players. But then again, there's always the possibility that the "backups" might pull together and prove to themselves that they are worthy to be listed amongst the best basketball players in the world. That and the fact that more losses equal higher draft status, and it might just prove to be a morale boost for next season. Time will tell...
