Says here Miles returned to practice for the 1st time in 13 months. Kinda hard not to gain weight when you cant run. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2007/basketball/nba/12/06/bc.bkn.trailblazersnote.ap/index.html PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Darius Miles may be one step closer to rejoining the Blazers. The small forward returned to practice Wednesday, taking the court for the first time in 13 months. Miles worked in one-on-one drills with rookie Josh McRoberts and did individual work with assistant coach Bill Bayno before pronouncing himself 90 percent healthy. "I've been patient for a year, actually, a little bit over a year," Miles told reporters. "So it's been very hard." Miles underwent microfracture knee surgery just before the 2006-07 season and missed much of the previous season after tearing the meniscus in his knee. While Miles has been around the Blazers during games and in practice since his surgery, he has been working out individually with rehab specialist Robin Pound. Portland coach Nate McMillan said doctors have advised the Blazers to keep Miles out of full-contact practice for a period of six weeks. There is no timetable for Miles, in the fourth year of a six-year, $48 million contract, to play in games again. "We're listening to the doctors on this," McMillan said. "What the doctors have told us is to slowly work him back. He'll do individual drills with our coaches and then in another week or two we'll put him into some three-on-three and kind of do it in stages."
No it's not. I don't run. I never run. I am 5'10 and weigh 145 pounds. Now, if I drank alcohol and ate poorly, that wouldn't be the case but it isn't hard to abstain from alcohol or unhealthy foods. What's easier than just not doing things that are bad for you?
No, everyone doesn't have the same metabolism. But you don't put on that much weight because you can't run anymore. Incidentally, could he swim? Could he walk? Could he do yoga? I'm sure there are other things he could have done. Regardless,(and again) people don't automatically put on THAT much weight just because they can't run. It has to be a combination of factors. Inactivity is just one of them, and again, I'm not sure he had to be completely inactive. But I also didn't mention that I'm 31 years old. Darius Miles just recently turned 26 years old. Going from Kevin Durant to Tractor Traylor in the course of a season is simply unjustifiable. If you think otherwise, look at most every other player who has had microfracture surgery. They don't all get fat. It could be an excuse to put on some weight, but this guy put on what? 50-60 pounds? You just can't convince me that beer and pizza didn't play a role in that. Especially considering we're talking about a guy who is already widely known to be an alcoholic and has been criticized many times for his poor work ethic.
This is what he looked like (how skinny he was) during his first 2 years with th Clippers. I remember he had amazing athleticism and mad handles for someone his size (6'9"). But he had no skill.

You might not be able to tell from this picture, which comes to us via the Blazers Blog and 100 Percent Injury Rate, but it's an etching (drawing? painting?) on the hood of Darius Miles' car. And it's awesome. It appears to be ... well, it Benjamin Franklin smoking a joint while receiving a lap dance. We're assuming Franklin's presence is due to his appearance on the 100 dollar bill, though we do like to dream, and pretend that Miles has researched Franklin's womanizing history and is simply paying tribute to an American hero. On the other side of the hood? The complete text of Thomas Paine's Common Sense.
I'll be 30 in March and I'm 5'9", 160lb and don't exercise AND I eat poorly and drink a lot. I still have abs although not nearly what I had when I was working out and eating better (although I ate many more calories than now). I agree with your post, BTW, I just wanted some guys here to see that a lot of times you actually have to try to gain as much fat as Miles. LOL I'm amazed that a guy as lean and skinny as Miles was is able to put on this much fat. Kinda sad.
Thank you. I'm sure a great many people pack on the pounds a lot easier than I do, but good god! Look at that guy!
I understand that there are probably things he could change, like diet or any other unhealthy habits, but recovering from microfracture surgery and a torn meniscus isnt helping is cause at all.
Seriously, guys, how can you tell by THAT picture that D-Miles is out of shape? So his face looks thicker -- how many of you didn't add 5-10 pounds (at LEAST) somewhere between ages 25-30? C'mon, give the dude some slack. I never liked his game much because he was too focused on himself and not enough on his team. Maybe some time on the sideline gave him a new perspective (it certainly helped Francis). I'll reserve my judgement until I've actually seen him play again.
There are more pictures but I don't remember where I saw them. Even so, the two in this thread are very telling. It isn't fair to SF to compare him to Miles. SF never erupted like a volcano into expletives in the face of his coach or showed up at practice wreaking of alcohol. I don't recall SF having major conflicts with nearly every teammate (as Miles did on the Blazers). SF actually had talent and accomplished a few things on the court while Miles has done zippo since entering the league.
