I have been told I am a niche micro generation called a Xennial. (1982) I remember the time before the internet, and fit cleanly in neither the GenX or Millenial bucket.
My wife is also on the borderline at 1981. She identifies with Gen X more than Millennial. I think if you're sarcastic, love grunge and own a home then you're Gen X. If you're still living at home at 40 and looking for a job and dream of a home, you're Millennial.
The Silent Generation: Born 1928-1945 (78-95 years old) Baby Boomers: Born 1946-1964 (59-77 years old) Gen X: Born 1965-1980 (43-58 years old) Millennials: Born 1981-1996 (27-42 years old) Gen Z: Born 1997-2012 (11-26 years old) Gen Alpha: Born early 2010s-2025 (0-about 10 years old)
I don't watch much of TV, handful of times I had watched movies in the past 15 years or so, no Netflix or video games, I should have been born a century ago
I don't know which generation, but GTFO my lawn P.S.: Also, I have people who mow my lawn. No guesses allowed.
I'm a people need to stay the hell out of my business, stop getting so easily offended, and slap on some damn deodorant when they go out in public. What generation is that?
We sure likes to make ourselves seem special/unique. Although I guess there is something distinctive about growing up in an analog world and coming of age in a digital one. All I know is I am extremely glad social media/web 2.0 was not around when I was a kid. I'm also one of the rare people my age who never took an online class in any form during my education, college or otherwise.
Millennial but things have gone pretty well so I don't relate too much to some of the stuff millennials experience. For example, from my perspective, if you're 40 and still live with your folks - and you're someone who lives in a relatively affordable area* and have long prioritized being a home owner** - then you probably don't have a good excuse for your situation. It's on you. This is not to say that home ownership should be the goal of everyone, but if that's your own personal measuring stick and at the age of 40 in the Greater Houston area you still haven't achieved it and are still leaching off your folks, then damn. Damn, man. Come on. *People who live in SF, NY, LA, DC etc. are exempted because land values there are insanely high. **People who never have or only recently prioritized home ownership are also exempted. If you had instead prioritized traveling the world or doing exotic things then it makes sense why you never invested in home ownership.
