K Martin is a better decision maker than Brooks, and like 7 inches taller..

Even if you consider last year's 42% shooting year Martin's absolute statistical peak from here on forth, he still had a TS% of over .600, good for 11th in the league. In good conscience, I can't consider a 700 minute sample this year with Tyreke Evans as his "point guard" a meaningful sample.

Injuries and defense are legitimate concerns. But K-Mart is one of the most efficient scorers in the league, bar none, and to discount that would be like saying Dwight Howard isn't good at rebounding, or Steve Nash isn't good at passing.

One huge, huge thing that is probably being discounted is Martin's propensity to draw fouls at a Kyle Lowry, or ironically Carl Landry-esque rate. Combined with the excellent charge taking abilities of the front-line, you could see lots of foul trouble early in games, and when you add in Yao, you've got a winning formula according to advanced stats.

I'm very worried about the impact of his injuries. Incoming players tend to get the legendery Rockets Shooting and Injuries disease.

I dont think so. Kmart draws fouls like crazy not because he takes it to the hole a lot, its because his extremely fast release on jumpshots, he actually gets fouled mostly out on the perimeter.

I agree with all but the last statement. Have you seen Kevin Martins shot? Hell it goes in at a fast pace but it's anything but a sweet stroke. He has one of the most awkward shooting strokes in the league. He is known for it.

That's why I prefer a Kmart/Lowry back court. More balanced offense/defense with size. AB can play as a 6th man role to provide scoring.

I agree, he does seem a bit awkward when he shoots. Then again, Bird had one of the ugliest shooting forms ever and look where he ranks as a shooter. Thankfully, shooting form doesn't always translate to shooting accuracy!

Kevin Martin is one of the best pure shooters in the league and is the ideal type of SG you want with Yao.

    Brooks-Martin-Battier-Scola-Yao

is a deadly half court lineup. A dominant post presence, a gritty garbage front court guy with deadeye 3 point shooters on all sides.

Not to mention, Martin is one of the best in the league at getting to the line and making free throws which is always useful. Losing Landry hurts, but Martin aint no scrub.

Completely agree with that. I don't care how it's put in the hoop as long as it's going in.

    The Better question is...

What exactly does K-mart bring to the team that Battier doesn't?

Since I am guessing he will start for Shane...and well...Martin is at least a is a 50x better scorer than Shane.

He can be a Jason Terry type player.

Agreed. Especially when Yao comes back next season.

Of course, maybe Morey will land a better pg this summer.

I'm pretty sure Morey's long-term view is Lowry + Martin in the backcourt since we would no longer need so much volume scoring out of the PG position.

Brooks is most likely going to get traded by next season if he doesn't somehow end up in a deal before the deadline tomorrow.

The only other possibility is that Brooks accepts a role as a scoring spark off the bench. I think Brooks would excel in that role, especially after his experience as a starter (even if turns out to be largely unsuccessful). The problem is that it would be tough to tell your starting PG to accept backup duties. If Brooks can do that, great. If not, hopefully we get something good in whatever trade he is involved in.

Imagine how spaced the floor is going to get with this lineup:

    Brooks
    Martin
    Budinger
    Scola
    Yao

    Enough said.

Not to mention more consistent than Brooks.

Cant say much about the shooting, but he already have the injury bug, so its not going to hurt him there.

Please i dont want to hear about anymore trades untill the end of next season. I'd like this team to regain its confidence and continue to keep playing at a high level. Deadlines and rumors distract our players focus from the game and winning. I'll be comfotable to give it a all-out go next season when Yao returns and our players are in adjusting and asserting Martin into the grand scheme of things and finding it's roles - spots, etc... Man i'll be so glad once we finish the draft, Yao returns and team can go all-out having this extra half season to prepare. I'd like them to make all their moves now so they'd have as much time possible to gell together, build chemistry and get off to a good start next season.

He'll make it a hell of a lot tougher for me to win games on nba 2k10 or nba live 10 with that jacked up jumpshot form.
