If Ron does leave, this is quite possibly the worst offseason in franchise history, and it's due to no fault of anyone...except Dr. Clanton. Blame him for it.
Well atleast well have more money to spend and now Morey will have more flexiblity to start revamping the team!
If Artest doesnt come back, Yao should just take the whole year off after his surgery. Don't even try to make it back by the postseason. Houston will be very attractive for FAs in 2010 with a healthy Yao and the Rockets's young core with another year's worth of experience.
Ron is unrestricted and Morey didnt show up at his doorstep... Rockets must have known he was leaning towards making a move. Hopefully it is a S&T... Who knows...Im thinking it is Cleveland over LA
Here it is.... Artest's Return to Rockets Unlikely Updated: Wednesday, 01 Jul 2009, 9:10 PM CDT Published : Wednesday, 01 Jul 2009, 9:10 PM CDT * MARK BERMAN HOUSTON - NBA sources told FOX 26 Sports Wednesday it is unlikely free agent forward Ron Artest will return to the Houston Rockets. League sources told FOX 26 the Rockets would be willing to offer Artest a one-year contract at best. The sources said because of that the chances of Artest resigning with Houston are remote. Artest's agent, David Bauman, who has not been available for comment, said Tuesday Artest's first preference is to return to the Rockets. However, if that was not possible, Artest wanted to play for a team that will compete for a championship. Rockets general manager Daryl Morey has not been available for comment for this story. The Rockets acquired Artest in a trade with Sacramento last July. http://www.myfoxhouston.com/dpp/sports/nba/090701_artest_return_unlikely In his only season with Houston Artest averaged 17.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.3. assists, and 1.52 steals per game.
It also means Rockets will use MLE on Gortat or some one. They won't be able to afford both Artest and Gortat anyway.
to basically give artest to cle is b.s. i dont care what anyone thinks, to not sign ron for basically alittle over the mle is dumb. im pissed.
What a ****ty offseason. Not a big surprise though. And in the end, maybe not as big a deal anymore. No Yao, No Tmac.... letting Ron be the 'go to guy' wasn't going to get us anywhere. Oh well. If true, I liked having Artest around when he was here. If only this team wasn't so cursed. What could have been...
Hmm, mixed feelings. His one year with us did coincide with our first trip out of the 1st round in a long time which I attribute to his toughness and desire to win, but yeah, his skills didn't warrant a long-term contract. I'm ok with it though this does place a lot of responsibility on Morey to do something big with the money we're gonna have (doubt we're tanking). Are we going to get anything in return or does he just walk?
Not full panic. If you didnt realize before, the writing was on the wall. Rebuilding had to begin somewhere and with Ron leaving now, I think its safe to say, let the rebuilding begin!
