Your handle is Granville Waders, what do you think. For all of you who don't know Granville Waiters, imagine a taller, black Dr. Phil.
The 95 playoffs was definitely better to watch. The game 5 wins against the Jazzholes. The Mario Elie kiss of Death Hakeem's domination of FAKE MVP David Robinson And the sweep of Shaquille Oneal led Lakers Awesome. The 93-94 championship probably means more to me, as it was the first, and I went to games 6 and 7, but the 2nd run at it was probably mroe exciting.
Funny, I was thinking the same thing when I saw the title thread. Mario Elie "Kiss of Death" (95) Dream vs. The Mermaid (95) Dream vs. Significantly lighter Shaq (95) Kenny Smith's 11 3pters (95) Rockets down 3-1 to Phoenix and win(95) Rockets vs. Phoenix series (94) Rockets win games 6 and 7 of Finals (94) Didn't Barkley (with the Suns) write on a clubhouse chalkboard "It won't happen" when asked if the Rockets could still win the series down 3-1. (95) Classic Clutchcity moments......
He was talking about starting an ass whiping company or something like that. It wasn't a very smart statement (investment) on his part, but very profitable for our Houston Rockets, hence the word ClutchCity.
He had that printed on T-shirts that he showed off to the media when the Rockets were on the brink of elimination. He made a huge deal out of it by saying,"We're in the business of ass kicking---and business is good". That really came back hard to bite him on his own rear!
I enjoyed that series. It was one of the few times, that Barkley did not have a witty comeback. When I think of the championship teams, the following phrases always come to mind: 1. Clutch City 2. Never underestimate the heart of a champion 3. Stay hungry, stay humble 4. Kiss of Death
I know! Maybe new posters should have to complete a short questionaire on the team's history before registration.
LOL. even Jazz fans knows this. I really really don't understand how some one can be a true Rockets fan without knowing this, unless he's eight or never seen a minute of basket prior to 97.
You know what, that was my initial reaction to it as well, but thinking about the stupid question, and reading the list of responses sure resurfaced a lot of fantastic memories. Esp the Elie "kiss of death". That was by far my best moment as a sports fan. I was living in LA at the time, and was in the middle of a high school summer league game, and when I came back to the bench during a timeout and a buddy of mine yelled the Rox score at me (there was about 3.5 min left to go in Rox game and 5 min to go in mine)- I called for a sub and bolted for the coaches office and turned on the TV set, in the middle of my own game. My coach and a teammate of mine (both Rox haters) followed soon thereafter thinking something was terribly wrong. Long story short, we all three ended up missing the end of our own game to catch the end of the Rox game, and I have never been so proud to have other people witness me screaming like a young schoolgirl in all of my life. That game was truly unbelievable. I will forever remember those years that made this city "Clutch City".
