Agreed in addition to the chinese water torture he should be slowly sprinkled with boiling acid. What he did to us SHOULD be considered a crime!

Charley Casserly, one unbelievably stupid SOB!

Of course, our offense had just driven down the field for a game-tying FG.

Right. As much as one can't take for granted they *would* score, one can't take for granted they wouldn't.

True. I think his point is that we were very close to having the same record as the team led by the Second Coming. And that team barely beat the Texans both times they played.

I understand the expansion team had an old defense. That's how it works- but I don't think our player moves did anything but keep us an expansion level defense.

I'm very glad we have D Ryans in the middle. Do I like the safeties- I'd try to upgrade both- what about outside linebacker- they both will need to be upgraded. We need a cover corner in the worst way, and the D-line is a mess as far as pressuring the QB and plugging the middle.

Hurray for progress- after 50 something draft picks I am good with Demeco Ryans, D. Robinson when he's trying and Mario- hoping he keeps improving.

Is there one free agent on defense who is a playmaker? Phillip Buchannon is indefensible, and Babin sure wasn't worth 2 picks.

I like the direction our defense is going, we did play better towards the end of the season, but the overall defense on the field wasn't any better than what we started with- just younger as you pointed out.

Tennessee has been a two time, legit Super Bowl contender/division champion, demolished itself, went to cap purgatory, and then rebuilt itself during the entire lifespan of the Texans existence.

Your point, besides stating the obvious?

That the Texans are far, far away.

Despite the seemingly small difference in record, they're even far away from being a legit playoff contender, which the Titans were THIS year (and the gap will grow in the offseason as the Titans are finally out of cap jail).

They were one OT and less than one score away from losing to the Texans twice this season. Either of those games or the other four that were by less than one score and the Texans would've been playing for a playoff spot on that last Sunday. It was the Titans, who really played well against that Patriots team who had nothing to play for at all.

I know the Texans didn't have a great year, but they did make some good improvements this season. There is no denying that.

But, you're right. There has never ever ever been an NFL team that has gone from being a doormat to a playoff contender in one or two seasons. Ever.

Do you really want to play "games they could have won/lost" argument?

Then I can say the Titans are a close loss to the Jets (pre-vince) and a 3 point loss to the Dolphins (pre-vince) and a one-point loss to the Colts and a one point loss to the Ravens away from hosting a playoff game last weekend...actually they might even have a bye week if all that happened. So basically the Titans are just a few plays away from being the Patriots, which means the Texans who are almost the Titans are almost almost the Patriots.

While I am at it, why can't we deduct some of the mediocre almost-losses on the Texans schedule - like basically all their wins save one vs. J-ville. Whoops, looks like I jsut dropped them down again.

Nothing to play for? so why did they leave Tom Brady in until the 4th Quarter?

It couldn't have been because it affected their playoff seeding because a win gave them a chance to pass up the Colts (playing later in the day) right?

Trust me, the Pats had a lot more to play for than the Browns did, that's for sure.

Yeah because that's exactly what I'm saying.

But anyway since you brought it up, tell me how the Texans are apt to catch lightining in a bottle, when they have question marks all over the team and no dynamic palyer or players around which to structure such an unlikely run?

I'd argue that the defense as at least one player (Ryans) to do that with two others who have the potential (Robinson, Williams). They have a pro-bowl receiver, a good second receiver as well as good TEs on the offense. Their rushing game started to come around the last month of the season as well.

I'm not arguing that they'll make or even contend for the playoffs next season, but I do think they definitely will in 2008.

I agree they're on the right track (if they replace Carr), but there's a lot that can go wrong between now and then.

Will AJ and Moulds still be Texans for 2008?

I don't believe they will, if the Texans keep Carr.

Wait...I thought these were reasons Carr wasn't effective at QB and should be given more time. I thought it wasn't possible to evaluate him without being surrounded with proper tools

let's not all go harvey kitel in pulp fiction on one another just yet. the titans hit a 60-yard FG; were lucky to be present for the utter and complete collapse of an entrire organization (the giants) and won a coin toss on the road of a game in which the home team had just driven to tie the score with time running out - how many of those breaks go their way again next year?

which is not to belittle where tennessee is, or where they're going - they're scary. but teams are what they are, record-wise. the titans were 8-8; the texans 6-10. they're not light years apart by any stretch and made the same progress, in terms of wins, this year.

Yeah because god knows you lose a coin flip and give David Carr and the Houston Texans a chance to win in OT and you might as well just START THE BUS CAUSE THIS BABY'S OVER!!!!!!!

Most of the the Texans' motley collection of wins was by one score or less. Again, do you want to play the "what if" game? Because you could very easily be looking at a 2-14 season for the battle red boys; yes they lost some tight games; they also won some tight games.

Conversely you can say the same for Tennessee, you can either take away some close wins (Indy, NYG, Houston) or take away some close losses (Indy, Miami, Jets, Ravens).

At the end of the day they cancel each other out, and you have one team going for the playoffs and another finishing out the string.

If they cancel each other out, then a two-win difference is not light years ahead.

    Except that it actually happened.

Not only that, this PoS offense actually beat a better team than the Titans. They weren't "withing a FG", "within a TD", or "possibly within a coin flip". They BEAT the Colts.

...and they were a coin flip away from possibly beating Vince Young's Texans.
