I just don't understand it.

Jeff is so far to the left, that IMHO, he just has to be crazier than a **** house rat.

Yet, no matter what the subject, he is always so damn eloquent. I have to really search to find a chink in the armour of his argument, and yet invariably, I can't. It's too perfect. Too beautiful.

It's almost enough to make me reconsider my politics.

I'm not getting involved in the personal dispute here.

But I would like to defend the decision to censor the N- word. The way we look at the world is shaped by language, and that language is colored by connotations, hints, and memories. That word has far too much of a past for it to ever be expected to be taken completely innocently. I know many people use it without meaning it derisively - but then, many people also really believe the confederate flag simply stands for the Old South in all of its "glory."

I think they're wrong, though. It's not just being civil- it's divorcing ourselves from all the old hatreds that lie BEHIND the word.

How in the world can you possibly suggest that it is wrong for Brian to say what he said because it is "racist" by jamcracker's standards but it is ok to allow the n word to be used on this board even though it is considered racist by nearly everyone's standards? The non-use of the n word doesn't make me feel like this is a more civil place. It can be just as hurtful with or without it. However, censoring does lead to the ultimate conclusion that it is inappropriate.

I never said the lyric was wrong. I said the use of the n word in it was not allowed and inappropriate.

It doesn't matter what hurts a person's feelings. If you deliberately go after someone just because you think it is ok, you are being insensitive. Just because you think it is ok doesn't make it ok. Period.

You saying Kagy didn't trash jammie here is irrevelant, because it is blind to Kagy's long history, which you like to point out about me...which I indeed already used first as a matter of comparison, like I was even hiding behind it. I'll put you down as someone who takes bball arguments too seriously, who I should avoid in the main thread.

We all know Kagy trashes people visciously, on topics that define themselves like politics, religion, race. I never told Almu or anyone on this board to **** off.

Not just when compared to Jammies reply, but by themselves. Honestly...what is the worst statement that could be construed from his words? Is it: "I think that whites are so advanced, that although they make up only 70% of the population, they purchase a full 80% of all sports related merchandise and tickets. But we won't discuss the fact that they can't come close to 70% in participation." BK may have been aluding to something else, but I can't imagine anything more harsh than what I just stated. Was it really worth Jammies reply? Is it really worth you getting this bent out of shape? Have some tequila....it will make you feel better.

No, I am on record telling you to kiss my ass. I don't deny that. It was because you continued to harp on something that I found to be out of line. You took personal shots at me in that thread and I responded. That was stupid. I should have left it alone as should you.

I've also told BK to kiss my ass on this board. He and I had a rather nasty fight around Christmas for which he approached me and apologized and I reciprocated. We get heated on here because none of us seem daring enough or willing to do it in person. It is part of the geekdom that goes with the anonymity of the internet. (Sorry, Behad. )

You don't need to pull any threads. Most of us are guilty of acting stupid and getting out of line. For every thread you can find on me, I can find one for you.

I cannot argue that BK says inflamatory stuff. Sometimes what he says, I don't like. I usually tell him. That, however, does not justify the response in this thread at all.

O'Malley used to own the Dodgers. I am assuming that the poster meant Campanis since it sort of applies to this discussion.

Two things I do not understand:

1. Why heypartner jumped on Jeff for defending Brian and being hypocritical...when all Jeff had said (to that point) was "please don't make personal attacks -- stay with just the issues."

2. Why Jeff then fell into the trap by defending his phantom defense.

Yet another thread derailed by "heypartner vs. the admins."

And all this time I wanted to make the point about this great father, "looking out for his son" where the end result was that he is going to Miami -- a notoriously sketchy program, a machine more than a university, etc..

You are totally wrong Jeff. Rocketman95 had made a point about the disproportionate ratio of black head coaches to white head coaches in the NBA. Kagy fires back with the economics of the game, implying white folk spend a disproportionaly more amount of dollars on tickets and merchandise than do black folk. Then Kagy agrues that maybe the reason that there are more white coaches than black coaches in the NBA is that there are more white coaches that merit the position.

Jeff if you think these statements are not equivalent to the use of the N word then maybe you should give us your own definition because in my mind they are!
