I don't know, how many kick off returns does one get when your defense allows 40 to Fresno State? UT was in alot of blowouts where Vince did not play more than a drive in the second half. How many comebacks did USC need this year? I think Reggie is the winner, but Vince's passing numbers are close to Leinart's.
I always notice they don't print questions in articles. here's an article on the quote. http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/3505227.html AUSTIN - With one day until Heisman Trophy ballots have to be cast, Texas junior quarterback Vince Young isn't prepared to offer his concession speech. Instead, Young hopes voters look beyond the statistics and highlight reels. He wants them to consider that he was a bench warmer during the second half of most of this season's games. Coach Mack Brown makes the Heisman argument: best player in the country or most valuable player? "I think my chances are real high if (the voters) have been watching the games and how I'm a leader for my teammates," said Young, who had remained silent about his chances before Monday. "I hope they see that the numbers I put up are basically in the first half and the second half I'm on the bench. "If I played a full game I'd have more stats. Coach Brown doesn't like to blow out people, so he put basically all our starters on the bench." USC tailback Reggie Bush is considered the front-runner for the Heisman — which will be announced Saturday in New York City. Young finished the season with 2,769 passing yards and 26 touchdowns. His 168.6 passer efficiency is the best in Division I-A. What might hurt Young this season is the dominating way the Longhorns achieved their 12-0 record, the best in school history. Texas scored 50 or more points seven times. Only three times this season — against Ohio State, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M — were Young and the first-team offense still on the field midway through the third quarter. "(I understand) that Reggie and Matt (Leinart) are both great football players, but I don't think we would sitting here today without Vince," Brown said. Young ranks sixth in NCAA Division I-A history in winning percentage (.935) by a starting quarterback. The second-ranked Longhorns have won 19 straight games and will face top-ranked USC in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 4 for the Bowl Championship Series national title. Young said he hopes voters look beyond the numbers at his leadership during UT's 19-game winning streak. Ballots must be cast by 4 p.m. Wednesday. "If they look at that and how much I love my teammates, how good we play together and how big of a leader I am to those guys, I should win it," Young said. "If they are looking for just the big, big highlights, you've got Bush winning it." Bush is considered the most dynamic college football player in the country and a potential No. 1 overall pick in April's NFL draft. The "Vote for Bush" campaign — the player, not the Republican president — received a surge when he rushed for 294 yards against Fresno State and 260 against UCLA. Most Heisman tracking polls — including CBS SportsLine, ESPN.com and SI.com — show Bush with a big lead. Last year's winner, Leinart, is in third. More than anything, Young said he wants the Heisman hoopla to end. He will hit the banquet circuit, making a stop Thursday in Orlando, Fla., for the Home Depot Awards before heading to New York. "I'm ready to get it out of the way," he said. "I'm tired of hearing about it." If Young doesn't win it, there will be extra motivation when the Longhorns and Trojans meet in the Rose Bowl, he said. "It would definitely motivate me if I didn't win to go out and show the world they made the wrong decision," he said.
LOL...last year it was Mack's public lobbying to get into the Rose Bowl, this year it's Vince's public lobbying for the Heisman. Crying to the media has become the UT football way of doing business!
Pretty obvious we deserved to be there. btw, has old man Graham dropped UT from the schedule? I'm sure he's tired of his team getting pounded by a real baseball team. Bad times for you, big texx. We're #1 in baseball, #2 in football and basketball.
Who gives a flying f*ck about some comment on ESPN? The Horns are coming off a 12-0 regular season and playing for the title. Vince will be in NYC this Saturday for the Heisman presentation.
It is possible that Young is taking a dig at Bush because they're friends. And because he doesn't want to lose a bet: The Heisman is a huge award, so I think a certain amount of lobbying is tolerated. If the situations were reversed, I would think Bush would say something similar, and personally, I wouldn't mind at all. It's not like he was trashing the team, like Aaron Rodgers did to Texas last year. That was just malicious.
Lobbying is what you do...If you believe in a player, and he's deserving, its not a question of why, but when...Oregon did this with Harringtion & Smith...I still think Bush will win, just out of the hype and his performance the last couple of games, not the entire season, which is a shame... If he loses, Vince will be motivated to prove, to a national audience, that he deserved to win...

no you didn't. try again big boy. i didn't hear these comments (which is surprising b/c i've been watching SC and usually watch anything about the Horns) but: a) somewhat surprising vince would say this (the putting the team on my back was weirder than the "highlight" comment, just b/c it puts vince on a pedestal more than he ever has; he's the ultimate team guy, always pumping guys up, trying to get everyone involved, the whole team loves him) but: b) the media sure hasn't stuck up for vince all year (bush taking an almost unanimous lead in the heisman after his first good game in a month after vince had thoroughly outplayed him for that month was ridiculous) so he might as well and: c) name one thing he said that was incorrect. and robbie380, while vince's performance against a&m was a little concerning, he seemed to get back to being vince in the Big 12 CCG. oh, and if we wanted to run the score up this year, we would've put 80 on U-La-La, 70 on ttech, 60 on CU the first time, 90 on CU the second time, 80 on kansas and at least another TD against both okla st and baylor. we were very kind. the closest we came all year was leaving vince in for a minute of the 4th quarter against baylor to finish a drive that started in the 3rd. he threw a pass on the first play and then we ran the ball every play for the rest of the game. vicious i tell ya.
Considering I prefaced all of this by saying Leinart isn't even part of the discussion I don't know what he has to do with this. Bottom line, Vince gets more chances then Reggie does. Reggie deserves the Heisman, Vince had a great season and deserves to finish second. Does anyone here disagree with any of that? Lastly, I think him calling Bush a "highlight" wasn't a lighthearted dig because of a bet but rather what he felt. He's entitled to that opinion but I think it would have been best if he kept it to himself.
I just wonder if you've actually watched either SC or UT play. Or do you just sit on your couch and watch espn and listen to the talking heads.
Wow, you know what's in my head know. You must be psychic. You should use that skill more often, what a joke. I will try again little fella'..... 1. I said there's nothing wrong with pumping himself up (even though the people who said he didn't care about the Heisman are conveinently dodging this) but he referred to Bush as a highlight. That he is but he's also the best player in college football, the #1 pick in the draft and one of the prospects ever. I haven't heard that about Young. Sorry little fella' , he's a lot more then a highlight. 2. Bush has earned the hype but you can't admit to that because you're a massive homer. I don't like A@M , I'm impartial to UT and I certainly and not a USC fan. Vince has been on the cover of SI twice this season and is getting plenty of hype, sorry it's not enough for you but he just isn't the best player this year. That argument is as lame as it gets unless you are a homer. He's going to finish second, deal with it. 3. He made it like he didn't have the chance Reggie Bush did to put up stats. Bush averaged like 15 carries a game, Young is a starting quarterback on a team on it's way to a national championship game. That's just plain wrong. Vince had a great year and if reggie Bush wasn't playing this year he'd deserve the Heisman. However, he is and Vince doesn't.
how so. bush has stayed deep into games more than vince and gets to return kicks and punts. yes, the #1 passing and #1 rushing qb in the nation on an undefeated team should win the heisman. what do you find wrong with that. why should the #1 rb in the nation who is a below average return guy on an undefeated team win it over him. flashier highlights seems to be the biggest (and silliest) reason it will happen.
Anyone who isn't a UT or Young homer doesn't know anything right. I'm not going to get into an internet pissing match with you because it's super lame but I'd be willing to bet that I know just as much if not more about sports then you and have definitely been around the UT team and it's players more (unless you are a coach or a member of the athletic staff) I watch USC play tons because of Reggie Bush. I could careless about the Trojans. The bottom line is that if Young went to another school this wouldn't even be a discussion. like someone mentioned earlier, if Bush had said that you guys would be crying a river about him.
Wow, you know what's in my head now. You must be psychic. You should use that skill more often, what a joke. Wow, you also know what's in Vincent Young's head now. You must be psychic. You should use that skill more often, what a joke.
If you can do it why can't I? So unoriginal (and lacking valid argument) that you have to repeat what i say. Impressive. I didn't even expect this to turn into a Heisman debate (I tried to prevent it from the start) but a few homers just can't even let that go. Whatever, Bush has the Heisman wrapped up, it doesn't matter what you think. Like I've said all along I actually like Young but it's people like you that make it so hard.
