What do you think are realistic expectations for Yao next year? 20/10/4/3?

Regarding the predictions of 5 blocks and 5 assists, I agree that 5 blocks will be hard to do, but he is 7' 5" and the rox should be trying to funnel everything inside ala the Spurs of the twin towers era. I don't think 5 assists is out of the realm of possibility. KG has averaged more than 5 assists a game for years now. I know he's not a center but he is a big man, and his passing ability is not at Yao's level, even now. Because Stevie is not a traditional point guard, they will end up using Yao to initiate the offense from the post. His size will allow him to make plays even the best passing centers of the past (Sabonis, Walton, Divac, Olajuwon) couldn't make.

I really think he'll be able to average mid-teens in boards but that might be a little high. It depends on if he becomes more aggressive and gets stronger.

The scoring will depend on the Rockets offensive philosophy, but lots of centers in the past have averaged that much: Robinson, Ewing, O'Neal, Olajuwon, Malone. I realize that his game is not necessarily similar to any of those but with his outside shooting touch and the dearth of good Centers, I don't think upper 20s is unrealistic in a few years.

Yao is too weak to block a dunk from Lebron. He couldn't get high enough to block a dunk from Lebron either. Also, I don't think Yao even knows how to foul hard.

Yao being 7'5 helps him in more ways than one. Which means he
He doesnt need to get as high as other players to block shots.
I think its more of him getting his timing on rythm. Alot of times I
see Yao being late or a little early. He needs to work on his timing.

Yao knows how to foul hard. He's not acustomed to the NBA style of play. Him being the only Chinese guy on the court adds to his timidness. He'll be fine.

    20 pts, 20 reb, 20 assts, 20 bks

    Anything less and he sucks.

OK, realistically, he will put up about 10, 8, 2, and 2 because Badiane's numbers of 15 pts, 15 rbs, and 3 bks will take away from Yao's stats.

Definitely at least 17/9, but if JVG makes sure Cat and Franchise get Yao the ball and he stays injury free, 20/10 easy.

I agree with most of this, but not the last part.. I think we'll see the most improvement in rebounds. Here's why:

    1. He'll hopefully be stronger
    2. He is pretty cereberal, so he'll probably have learned a lot about positioning, which is critical for rebounding.
    3. hopefully, Van Gundy will put a stop to Steve always crashing the boards and define the roles for each position a little better.

I would also expect to see a decent bump in scoring, see reasons 1 and 2 above. However, this might be negated by the difficulties of his teammates in picking up the new offensive system.

I'm guessing his blocks will probably be nearly unchanged, even if Van Gundy's system funnels penetrators to the baseline for big man help, last year he got some blocks (and fouls) because Francis (and sometimes Cat) seemed to let guys by too easily, and Yao would have to come over and help out so much.

So I look for a big increase in rebounding, a decent increase in scoring, and blocks and assists not changing too much.

I think he's getting 75 ppg, 25 apg, 43 bpg, 103 rpg. He will score 498 points in the all-star game for the west. The Rockets will be in the NBA finals, and sweep the NJ Nets for the serie in a single game. The score for the that game will be 1026-13, Rockets.

6 points, 6 rebounds and 1 assist in 20 minutes.

Yao will regress because he spends the summer in China. Practicing with 5-9 high school caliber players will drag his skills down a few notches. It's like hanging around with idiots makes you stupid. Don't expect him maintain the same level of play of last year. He'll also forget all the English he learnt from speaking Chinese every day.:p

I realy think Yao will be a 20-10 guy next year. If the game is realy going to be run through Yao then his numbers should increase alot.

putting aside the fact that the rockets have NEVER lost a single game, yao will really help our team next year by bumping his avg. from 80 ppg to 800 ppg. thats pretty realistic i'd say. how can he get rebounds when we are 100% from the field anyway? i know sometimes it looks like we lose, but the scoreboard guys are just wrong. every other team in the nba is going for second place every year, we just dont know it. if you get the sports almanacs and read them backwards and translated into esperanto, it really shows that the rockets won the championship every year. they are just so humble that they dont usually show it.
