The Mets biggest regret: On July 30, 2004, the Mets traded their top prospect, pitcher Scott Kazmir, to the Tampa Bay Devil Rays along with minor league pitcher Joselo Diaz in exchange for pitchers Victor Zambrano. this guy is a future Cy-Young pitcher
There's nothing I love more in baseball than when the small market teams show up all these overpaid, pathetic top dawgs that have every advantage imaginable. Now, if only my Pirates would get that memo.
And that just makes no sense to me. Florida has 1/2 of spring training, and a huge Latino population. U of Miami and Fla State both have successful and popular baseball programs. I have no idea why their MLB teams do not draw.
I think the problem is the same one for the University of Miami football team (back when they were one of college football's elite programs not the rebuilding one they are now). Despite being ranked near the top of the polls, fans really didn't come out to see them in the Orange Bowl on a consistent basis. From what I read, it was some excuse of "there's so much to do in Miami, that people have little time to go watch a college football game" or some kind of BS like that.
those old people are all from the northeast and root for notheast teams, they ain't rooting for some newfangled devil whatevers, add to that the stadium sucks and you have poor attendance just like the dome
