please don't kill me for this, but...... ..... I'm not so sure I see the sense in trading away MoT's bad contract that expires NEXT season for the same bad contracts that also expire NEXT season. We got a fatter, drunker version of MoT in Vin Baker, and we got the human turnover machine in Moochie Norris. I just don't understand. So please someone explain to me why we could just hold on to MoT and let him rot at home, because really, are Moochie and Vin going to play? Honestly? HOWEVER, I LOVE THE MIKE JAMES DEAL!! I'm not going to lie to you, I think we rapped the Bucks on that one. 2 2nd rounders (with out Rudy T's talent eye that got us those great 2nd rounders like Cuttino) and Reece Gains, who may only play less than Andre Barret, and just barley more than MoT. We get a REAL PG who can pass, play solid D (not great, but solid), and can hit the open 3 (which he can get off Yao and T-Mac double teams). I really don't see what there is not to like about this one. But than again, someone correct me if I'm wrong about that too.
Further to that end, let's look at the Rockets success rate: Houston Rockets (1967 - ) Draft History 2004 Vasoulis Spanoulis Greece 2003 Malick Badiane Senegal 2002 Tito Maddox Fresno State 2001 Terrence Morris Maryland 2000 Dan Langhi Vanderbilt 1999 Tyrone Washington Mississippi State Venson Hamilton Nebraska 1998 Cuttino Mobley Rhode Island 1997 Serge Zwikker North Carolina 1996 Othella Harrington Georgetown Randy Livingston Louisiana State Terrell Bell Georgia 1995 Erik Meek Duke 1994 Albert Burditt Texas 1993 Richard Petruska UCLA Marcelo Nicola None (Argentina) 1992 Ronald Jones Murray State Curtis Blair Richmond 1991 Keith Hughes Rutgers Zan Tabak None (Yugoslavia) From 1991-2004, the Rockets have picked up 20 players in the 2nd round, of those 20, maybe Mobley and Harrington qualify as having had decent NBA careers, and Harrington was actually the first pick of the 2nd round in the pre-Charlotte bobcats NBA. In any event, the 10% success rate looks like it tends to hold up. With 2nd rounders, you have to basically just assume that you're not going to get a damn thing, so if you do it's gravy.
moochie. is he going to be the same moochie that is clowning around on the bench during timeouts when our team is down by 10. is he going to bring that unprofessional circus like attitude to the team. i want him to understand how different this team is than the one he was on and how serious it is about winning and doing something special. i think he'll see the difference and hopefully take what the rockets have going on as a serious thing.
Just last year Baker put up 10 pt at 48% clip in 24 min. He was a 4 time all-star. If he can recover just a bit of his former self, he might do some good for us. As he is declined in skill, he is still as good as MoT. He is longer at 6-11. He had not had a chance to play with a big man like Yao who commands so much attention. Vin might be able to let loose and do some damage around the basket. Mooch at least knows the system and expectation. He won't make many mistakes now and is better than Strickland (too old) and Barrett (too green). Contract wise, we traded MoT (8.4 + 9.1 + 9.7 mils) for Mooch (3.8, 4.2) Vin (3.5 + 3.8). We also got a hi 2nd rounder. Not a bad trade at all.
Taylor's contract doesn't expire after next season. There are two more full seasons left on his. Baker's and Moochie's on the other hand DO expire after next season.
The 95.5 percent trade approval on the poll on the front page. If we all like this trade what are we going to fight like hell about on this board?
That's for the Mike James trade. Nobody on the board has said anything but good things about it. I'm surprised at the 4.5% people that don't like that deal. When the Mo trade broke with us giving up a 1st rounder, there was a lot of opposition to the deal. But now that we found out that we are actually getting a 2nd round pick instead of giving up a 1st, about 90% of the board has come around on that trade too.
i wouldn't worry too much about mooch. if he doesn't get with the program quickly, i predict he'll come up with a severe case of plantar faciitis.
Both trades were excellent!!! I think that alot of you people bashing on the Mo Taylor trade are failing to see the big picture: 1. we will be out of salary cap hell after next year when moochie's, spoon's, and baker's salaries come off the books. This will allow us better leverage in trading and signing free agents. (like the robbery job GS did on NO for baron davis.) 2. we didnt have to give up a first round pick like in the Glen Rice salary dump. (Thank you Isaiah Thomas ) 3. getting baker and moochie is low risk, who at worst will ride the pine mo taylor style. 4. we got back a potentially higher 2nd round pick than the one we gave up in the Mike James trade.
It does not sound right. Contract wise, it is like Rox traded MoT for Spoon and Baker and got a 2nd rounder. Moochie just got a one year vacation from the Rox.
Scotty is taking away Scotty's minutes. After a a stretch of below avg games (not counting the 30 pt Wash blowout), he went 0 fer including a wide open shot at the end of the Seattle's game and did not get off the bench for SA, a back to back game. I venture a guess that Scotty is in Jeff's dog house.
This what I do NOT like about the HOU-NY trade: While we re-aquired Moochie, we did not get his afro back.
What do I not like about the Rockets trade: The fact that we essentially gave the Knicks a 1st round pick to take Moochie off our hands for a year.
You know at first looks like Nazr is that much of a steal. But I am not sure of that anymore. On our team he may or would have been great addition or a steal but as a Spur, he I am not sure he will give them more than what Malik Rose gave them in terms of numbers and effort. Malik's versatility they will surely miss because of the many thing he could do better than Nazr. But more than anything else, I now believe that the Spurs did this deal they made this deal more or less for financial reasons - to get out of Malik's contract (about $20M guaranteed over the next 3 years). Nazr contract runs through the 2005/2006 season (about $10.75M guarnteed money). In terms of productivity and numbers, I took time out to look at Nazr last 5 games when a NY fans prompted me that Nazr has not been worth a damn lately. It could be injury and it could be that he has reached his crest and now coming back to his old mediocre self - I don't really know that now. Nazr's numbers has been mediocre since the first day February (a span of about 10 games). Now compared that Rose's numbers since February. It seems like Rose is rising while Nazr is going the other way. Well lets see how it all shapes up for both teams. Maybe the Spurs did not really "win" that much (or anything for that matter) in terms of personnel. If I was a Spur I wouldn't shout uhuru yet.
The Rockets better pray that Juwan Howard doesn't get injured. I understand the trade from the Rockets standpoint, getting rid of a player who makes $9million and doesn't play, but if Weatherspoon ever has to start for this team, game over.
