Well, considering that the World Cup doesn't have basketball or swimming in it, I'll have to go with the Olympics. At least the United States is pretty good at some olympic events...

Can you tell me what's the best game you've watched ? So I can better judge if you understand 100% of the game, or the appeal of the game.

Olympics. No world cup team will ever match the appeal to me of the Dream Team, and that is only olympic basketball. Really, unless you LOVE succor and don't really care for any other sport, I don't see how you could possibly not choose the Olympics.

When the Olympics are 8 time zones away, I barely pay attention. 2004 was a low point for me and the Olympics. This year's World Cup has me fired up more than ever despite being in Germany.

If the Olympics were held in North or South America my interest would perk up.

Soccer is pretty far down on my list of sports. That said, if I was forced to watch all of the Olympics or the entire World Cup, I'd pick World Cup. I'd rather watch an unplugged tv than swimming, diving, archery, skating, gymnastics, bobsledding, and about two dozen of the other events in the Olympics.

    WORLD CUP!!!

So you enjoy 50 point blowouts in every game? THat is boring as hell. It was great seeing Bird, Magic, JOrdan and all those guys but I got to see them in the NBA competing against real competition not scrubs from other countries who probably couldn't beat an NCAA team.

I love the NBA, and NFL but love futbol that much more. THere are plenty of NBA, NFL and MLB fans on this board that are following the world cup with as much passion as others around the world. I don't see that when the Olympics are around.

The thing is soccer fans do not care that others (mostly people in the US) do not like soccer. The problem is the idiotic ramblings by the american like attitude towards the sport that is reflected by people like Rome and others in the media. Those people reflect you guys out there who bash the sport just because you have a tongue and can speak. You don't like it, that's fine. Don't talk about it. Don't watch it. Everyone has their own likes and dislikes. Not everyone has to like everything. I, personally HATE baseball. TO me it is the most boring sport out there, and I have given it a chance. I understand why people love it but it is not for me. In the same token, I do not go around blabbling about how boring the sport is and point out all its flaws like you soccer haters do. Just be respectful, that's all is wanted. Peace.

I don't know about that. Consider that many of the Olympic sports get little or no coverage outside of the Olympics there's a lot more on the line for Olympics atheletes. Also no matter how cliche it gets there is still something great about atheletes from small countries or sports that don't get a lot of attention of money working and sacrificing to get to the Olympics.

World Cup has a lot of passion but I don't think that compares to the agony of defeat etched upon the face of a skier wiping out at 70 MPH on an icy slope or the thrill of victory of a wrestler winning a gold at the pinnacle of their sport and something that will rarely be seen until another four years.

Have you watched Olympic Basketball lately? The world has caught up with us and then some. In a way, that makes me like it even better. I can't wait until the current version of the Dream Team excersises all of those demons and brings home the gold.

I picked neither. Before you flame me, understand that I totally respect all of you World Cup fanatics. I think everything about it is great except the actual games. Yes, I've tried to get into it. I've tried watching games. Soccer is just boring to me. Again, props to you if you enjoy it. I respect that. It's just my personal opinion.

I just prefer football to futbol. Football is the greatest sport in the history of mankind. Football represents life. Push your way to the goal line. Keep the other guy away from the goal line. Anyone gets in your way, knock his head off. What could be better?

    I'll take:

    NFL playoffs
    Ohio State vs Michigan
    Texas vs OU
    Florida vs Florida State
    Texas vs Texas A&M

to any futbol game or Olympic event, with the possible exception of the US in the gold medal basketball game.

You don't have to watch all of the olympics. Maybe you only like to watch Track, Basketball, and Boxing, or whatever. That is still 3 sports compared to just soccer. The olympics is great because you can pick and choose. If you don't like soccer (and quite a few of us Americans are not big fans) then the world cup really does nothing for you.

I was referring to the USA Dream team with Bird, Magic, Jordan and others; not the current squad which is what the other dude was talking about.

That's great that at least you gave it a chance. If you still find it boring that's your choice. I find baseball, golf, and nascar extremely boring and not even close to exciting as soccer yet they are more popular than soccer in this country (sadly).

I am not saying soccer doesn't have any boring games, there are plenty of matches that I can't get into. The World Cup doesn't have so many of those games though. But every sport has their fair share of boring games. The NBA, the NFL and MLB all have their fare share. To single out soccer is simply unfair.

I love American football. I did not know anything about it before I came to the states but have fallen in love with it and watch it like I do soccer (i love soccer more though).

I voted World Cup (football is my favourite sport, with basketball a close second), but I feel the appeal of both events has a lot to do with national pride as well. My country's illustrious sporting history boasts a grand total of ONE Olympic medal (silver) and ZERO World Cup appearances, so I very much prefer watching club football or the NBA instead
