If you want toughness on the team, I don't think getting a guy who hits women is the right answer. I mean, we only play the Mavs four times a year.
Why not cut snyder and get patterson? They both cant shoot from the outside, but at least patterson knows it. Patterson can also rebound and is a good defender. He, unlike snyder, can actually go off in a game and get you 15+ pts. Hey if hes willing to take 2 mil or so, then why not? High reward, low risk.
Do you realize how hard it is to stop myself from making all kinds of very poor-taste jokes in response to comments about his toughness or ability to "go-off"? I keep repeating "must not make sex-offender jokes, must not make sex-offender jokes." Guys, you're killing me. When I pen the movie-of-the-week Lockdown: the University of Cincinnati Basketball Story, where Sean Penn puts on 30 pounds to play Bob Huggins, Ruben Patterson will be played by the dude in Prodigy with the facial tattoos, zombie eyes, and dental implants. Can I make a better argument against signing him?
I know that he was once married, and plead guilty to an assault charge after he (orally) raped his daughter's baby sitter. I do not want that POS on our team.
Heh, his wikipedia entry says that when asked about releasing Patterson, coach Dunleavy said "he blew." Somehow I doubt that's true but kinda funny.
So I was so inspired by my passion for good old Ruben that I expanded my case into a blog post. http://michaelmandlin.blogspot.com/
No, we already have Chuck, Patterson has no offensive game but he does play hard. Not concerned about his past sex offenses but this team needs someone that can play on both sides of the ball.
Assuming we miss out on the Barry sweepstakes, I think Patterson would be a good pickup to replace what Bonzi brought to the table. Despite some character flaws, he does play hard.
Agreed. He's always been a tough defender and solid rebounder. He's not as offensively gifted as Bonzi is but I will give you that they are similar players and this is a decent suggestion. It won't make our break our season, by any means. Could he be useful in the event of an injury? Absolutely.
He is another body to throw at bigger, physical guards. We no longer have a big, strong guard on the roster with Bonzi and Snyder gone. He also has nice offensive games more often than a lot of people think. Just keep him away from the cheer leaders.
That is my thinking - his minutes would depend on certain matchups. Right now we have no one that can guard stackhouse in the event we meet dallas in the playoffs. We all know Luther's track record when it comes to Dallas.
