No thanks. He has baggage, and he won't come cheap. We NEED to somehow get Acie Law from the Hawks. They already have Bibby and Speedy Claxton, and Acie doesn't get any burn. At this point, I'd trade Brooks + Luther for Acie Law. http://games.espn.go.com/nba/features/traderesult?players=3219~3192~2763&teams=10~1~1&te=&cash=
I like Josh Howard's tenacity but the only times he seems to be effective is if he gets to ISO on a mismatch. When they go small with Dirk at the 5 and him at the 4, he always has a big man on him and he goes crazy but when there is a good perimeter defender on him he doesn't do all that good. He is a Head-like passer and he doesn't really excel off the ball either. I say he's a nice pick up if we don't give up much more than Battier because he is a good defender and is a multitalented offensive player but he reminds me of Larry Hughes. He looks like an all-star in specific situations but doesn't even look like a good player in other situations.
At least his value is low now so we might be able to get him cheap. We'd have to trade Battier for him and they play the same position. But Battier has a much better contract and is also a significantly better defender. So getting him would not be much of an improvement. I would much rather try to get Terry, who would give us a very potent perimeter threat and scoring option. I think something like this is not unreasonable: Brooks/Bobby Jackson/1st round pick for Terry. Brooks has some upside and Jackson's contract is expiring after the coming season, which is why Dallas would do the deal. It would give them a chance to rebuild in order to contend the year after next. Terry could then platoon with Rafer and occasionally play offguard with him when we go small.
Hmm, Terry's contract runs 4 more seasons after this one, which is a pretty big burden. I think we should force them to take Luther Head's last year and Jackie Butler's last year, too. that's save us about 3 million.
he's a touchy player. he didn'y play after AJ scolded him on the court for complaining too much to the refs after a foul. read the interview of AJ on his exit, pretty much the reason was his team, esp this guy, didn't responnd anymore to their coach.
If Dallas goes into serious rebuild mode, we might even be able to get them to do the deal without Brooks: Jackson/Butler/Head/1st round pick for Terry. That's 3 contracts that all expire at the end of next season. Dallas would then be well-positioned to sign a quality free agent after next year.
battier for howard howard wasn't able to handle being no 1 or 2 option.. to much responsibility but he can easily handle being 3rd option behind tmac and yao
He's got some baggage for sure, and has a lot to learn about keeping his mouth shut. Looks like he's not going to be able to smoke with his other nba friends like rasheed and carmello any more. Maybe this will make him quit even during the offseason. He'd be what the Rox need in a third scorer - hesitant to give up Battier though for him if we had to. But we really need a third scorer, and they need a defender, so it might work out.
I would rather trade for Terry because he works well as a 3rd option and he's also capable of running the point. HOWEVER.... with 4 years remaining with about 40 mil left and him being on the wrong side of 30....
I don´t think Dallas will go into rebuilding mode based on youngster, they maybe dismantle the team, but in exchange for usable pieces and not only for expirings, they maybe they choose to free some cap space but i don´t foresee Dallas trading to get 30+ millions in cap space. Not Cuban, he has no patience.
I'm sure this has absolutely nothing to do with the fact you're an Aggie Dentist and Acie Law was a point guard at A&M. I'm sure your desire to see Law on the Rockets is purely objective.
Ron Artest is cheaper and more likely. I don't see a division rival trading away a key piece within its own division.
Seems that the basic premise of this thread is that Dallas will be desperate to dump Josh Howard. He's obviously a good player, the only problem is that he's not especially cheap and the team would benefit from better shooting (preferably at the 1 or 2) more than they would from another SF. There may be some other teams desperate to start over -- can we trade our nice combination of expiring contracts for any of their decent players? Teams that may be interested in some cap space or in getting a veteran like Bobby Jackson. Potential fits for the Rox are in parentheses. Dallas (Howard, Terry) Phoenix (Barbosa) Portland (Outlaw) Denver (most of their players are trash -- Kleiza?) Chicago (Gordon) Milwaukee (Redd, if they decide to totally blow it up) Clippers (Maggette) Memphis (Miller)
Ron artest is also the biggest headcase in the league right now. Also, don't forget that he has no real desire to play second fiddle to anyone, let alone third
Look folks, we don't need another under achieving under sized pg! We need a potent slasher/shooter/ that can create his own shot! Oh yea and at least 6'6-6'8 in height. We need that type of guy without a doubt! We have capable point guards. We have capable power forwards. We lack in smallforward, and backup center. Anything after will be icing on our cake!
