the bottom line is you cant get anything for him of any worth. i personally feel we should just let his contract expire and in the summer of 2010 go for a big splash.....unfortunately because she-mac is so frail we wont get anything of equal value so were kinda screwed
You keep T-Mac until 2009 and there's a good chance the Rockets are going to go through all this pissing, moaning and drama again.
Yeah and its too bad She-Shane, She-Yao, and She-Ron have been so frail as well. Its not really fair to blame a guy for being injury-prone (especially with juvenile insults). However, if McGrady is done, I agree the best thing to do would be to let his contract expire and pursue a new free agent.
No, if he keeps his act up you just keep him out indefinitely. Whatever we get for him this year won't make any difference. We will still get trampled in the first round. Atleast in this scenario you get a nice deal for him next year.
Suspend him then and trade him next year. You aren't forced into anything right now. No need to make a bad long term decision just to absolve a nuisance.
I am pretty sure that the team as presently constituted without T-Mac could take out Portland or Dallas in a playoff series. With T-Mac traded and some decent, not even necessarily great pick up's, I think the Rockets could hang tough with anybody else in the West with the exception of maybe the Lakers. Put simply, I think holding onto T-Mac now probably hurts the Rockets more in the playoffs than moving him. Even if the guy comes back he's going to have to learn how to share the ball. He's going to have to learn how to play inside Adelman's motion offense. I have a feeling it's too late for T-Mac to learn anything new.
We'll have to agree to disagree then because I don't see this team standing a chance against anyone in the West without T-Mac or a comparable perimeter talent (Iverson). I can agree with that. He could be done here. My point is that I would rather just wait it out and get a better deal next year, but I see we disagree fundamentally on where this team stands without him.
Some believe this is the first time TCrap has gone off the deep end. Trading him isn't an option and we really are better off with out him. His teammates don't believe in him and he doesn't believe in himself. There is no doubt about it, Tmac has skills. If you can't apply them night in and night out, then you are not a star player and you do not deserve to be called a star. Francis was the same way. Ironically enough, we though we were robbing Orlando. It appears it was a fair trade afterall.
Agree, I think the best time to move will be during the upcoming draft this summer. His contract might be alot more desirable about that time.
Good, realistic post. But I still hold out hope that McGrady situation can be resolved. If this team can get healthy and live up to its potential, I think it still has a shot at the finals. Time, however, is running out. Even if the Rockets have already decided to cut ties with McGrady, they should wait until the summer to do so. Or else, they should let him play half a season next year: McGrady will be in his contract year and motivated to increase his value. The least possible option is trading McGrady in the next month, before this year's deadline. As thecabbage says, the Rockets won't do it with the short-term thought of saving their playoff hopes for this season. So if a deal is somehow made before this year's deadline, it would mean that the Rockets have completely given up on this year. Also, it would have to be a deal that is heavily favored for the Rockets - an offer Morey can't refuse. Given the current situation, I doubt this will happen.
I'd say the Rockets probably wouldn't do well against LA, but Dallas, Phoenix and Portland look vulnerable now. It's not a question of how good you are sometimes but how crappy your opposition is and Dallas and Phoenix have come a long, long way from their glory days.
i hope we get someone better than joe johnson b/c technically tracy of the last few years (his off years) have been just as good if not better than this year's joe johnson. joe johnson's PER this year is only 19.8. tracy is pretty inefficient the past few years. joe's the same. it takes him 19+ shots to get his 22 points. if we get joe, that's still good. but hopefully we can get more that year.
The grass is always greener on the other side. McGrady has been the "worst" player in the league, but is still in the top 5 in passes that lead to points. What a ball hog!
like i said, the philly game will be the first game where tracy exerts a more consistent effort. it will continue v. the thunder. then we have the lakers matchup. tracy may not have had the stats v. philly, but he played hard. as long as he does that, his game will come.
He was a traffic cone on defense against Philly and other than a good 1st quarter offensively, was awful the rest of the game. I saw plenty of ball stopping and walking around as usual. I did see more effort to move early in the game, but it was very, very brief.
Agree, Tracy did play hard against Philly and you have no complaints from me when he gives that type of effort. I may be the minority in thinking that him giving the effort helped in some way for the teams morale against Boston even though he didn't play. I for one will be completely shocked if the rockets trade him before the deadline, he's still their best player and he just needs to get his head on straight. Being held accountable for his lack of prior effort will start to help the mental healing. The rockets need Tracy if they want to succeed.
Too true brother man. McGrady has understandably taken a lot of heat this season, but it has violently spilled over into rash acts of absurdity and ignorance. The true reason why he is under so much heavy fire these days is because deep down we all want our T-Mac back. We want him healthy because the reality of the situation is that without him this team will not win. Sure they may have a few regular season highs and lows, but they will not win in the postseason as we have all dreamed they would. A replacement would not get us over the hump either. Trading him is not and can not be an option, and thus we are left to wait. I don't want another first round exit, or even a first round victory. Call me greedy, but I want to taste another championship in Houston. Fans are so frightful that he will ruin this team with his mere presence. That's not the case at all. Fighting is definately not the best thing in the world, but overcoming tough times on a collective road to success is as unifying an experience as there is.
that 4th quarter v. philly the team showed a lot of heart too. it was unfortunate tracy missed a few open shots that could have closed the gap. but the team showed heart WITH tracy in the game in that quarter. and yes, that may transferred over to the boston's game.
So much of this turns on the mental aspect of what he's willing to accept (i.e. accept his new role as a sort of souped up Brent Barry - the Brent Barry from 5 years ago, not the shell of a player that currently takes up a roster spot) that I don't know if you can answer the question.
