Agreed with one caveat......if he becomes a distraction to the rest of the players, and they continue to call him out, I think you either have to: A. Marbury him B. Trade him. DD
If we trade him and HE somehow HEALS and is amazing, how would you feel? Especially if we get like a scrub or two for him. I'm just wondering how would you feel DD. I would feel like TOTAL **** and very disappointed...
Honestly Great, if he is back to his old self but still dominating the ball, and our team is going along fine without him.....I could care less. I doubt Orlando is pining for him. Look, to be fair, I only care about the team, not any individual player, I wanted Dream out of town to Toronto too...because he was done as a player... I wanted Francis gone because I didn't think he was a team oriented player.... All I care about is that the Rockets win, and if getting rid of a very talented player because he doesn't fit....fine by me. DD
Trading him for Iverson would be r****ded as well. Iverson's defense in worse than McGrady's. Iverson's man scores more against him than any other guy in the league. Doesn't seem possible? It's the truth. If McGrady truly didn't mesh with this team it would be one thing. Unfortunately for most he does. He really and truly does mesh with this team and makes everyone on the court that much more dangerous. He's the best interior and all around passer on this team. Our one true playmaker. The situation is what it is, and we're just going to have to let him get right. Trading a washed up player is one thing. Trading a superstar who is battling through a tough stretch is quite another.
The funny thing is so many people are going to be singing his praises when it's all said and done. I'm am all for this team and not individual players as well. It is for that very reason that we should all want T-Mac here. Anyone who wants this organization to win must in turn want McGrady to stick stay. Noone on this team is perfect. None of you are perfect. We all make mistakes. Ultimately it is how we respond to our shortcomings that defines us.
This team has no chance without him and will be stuck in salary cap hell by trading him. Mediocrity - the worse thing in sports. The only chance at greatness is through T-Mac or waiting another year when his value goes up. Trading him this year does nothing but absolve a whimsical itching to do something for the sake of doing something. Totally different situation. They had to trade him - he demanded a trade. While Francis didn't work out for them, T-Mac had full trade value at the time they dealt him. There was no motivation for the Magic to wait it out. He had asked out and his value wasn't getting any higher. Damn, that's harsh. Again, totally different situation. Francis' value was on the sharp decline with JVG at the helm. We gained nothing from waiting it out. They won't be doing much winning outside the tune of 42games/year if they make a stupid trade now. Patience is a virtue at this point. You have to think of the long term health of the franchise, because we're going nowhere this year with a trade.

Only this year because of whatever his problem is. He's carried this team his previous 4 years by himself and his only fault was that he didn't have any help. Who are you looking to trade him for?
Thanks, I fully agree. But in all seriousness, I agree that any players that you could get for T-Mac right now are not going to make this team a contender. Salmons and Brad Miller? Those two plus Artest sounds like a mediocre Kings team from a few years ago. Trade him for cap relief? His salary is expiring soon anyway. Trading T-Mac now is giving up on this year. Trading one of the team's best players for an inknown future commodity? Not smart. Plus, you would be sacrificing another year of Yao Ming, who is not getting any younger.
That's a whole separate argument. We'll just have to agree to disagree there. At this point, I don't care as long as it's not more than a two year commitment. Morey can figure out something.
Trading him would be a BIG mistake unless you're getting expiring contracts that can help right now. No trade will make this team significantly better than they are right now without him. His expiring contract is worth more than him and any trade out there right now unless we get Iverson or something like that. Doubtful.
That's the problem with trading him. You won't get anything back for him except maybe a Michael Redd. Michael Redd + Yao = prolonged mediocrity Why would a team trade players who only have one or two years left on their contract for McGrady? The whole point of a team taking McGrady is the cap hit. Wait it out till next year when his value skyrockets or the summer of '10 when you can clear it all off the books. But dealing him now screws you for a long, long time.
This is all predicated on the hypothetical that T-Mac comes back and plays hard. What if he just continues to do what he's been doing all season--slack and whine? He's not going to be of any use in the playoffs, assuming the Rockets get there. Might as well dump him now so that he's not bogging down the Rockets next season as well.
What about DD's thread? Its pretty much the same thing. Oh well, maybe you missed it because its only like a million pages long.
