I can't really say that in my experiences that one term runs away with it in Houston. I use soda.

I haven't heard sugar water in years. I had a creole friend back in middle school who always pronounced it; "sugah watah."

I lived in Utah and I had a really hard time keeping a strait face when grown men would say "pop" with no remorse.

    I just sounds so childish.

    I'm a "coke" guy, and I personally despise Coca-Cola.

After reading that guy in the wheelchair in front of the 18 wheeler, I need a kleenex to wipe my eyes from laughing.

When I was a kid, I saw a sign that said, "frontage road".

Me: Mom, what is a frontage road?
    Mom: Its the feeder
Me: ....oh ... ? why do they call it the frontage road?

So what region is "feeder" from? Is it just Houston or Texas or what? I only discovered that everyone else uses frontage a few years ago.

Btw, on to topic. Coke...but only in my social circle. When I say coke in a restaurant, I mean Coke.

I'm from Houston...I call everything Coke.

I live in Minnesota now...and everyone here calls it pop. Actually it's more like "pahp," which I can't stand.

The other day I asked someone at work where the closest coke machine was...her answer: "Well, there's a pop machine around the corner, but I'm not sure if they have Coke." :)

I think it's mainly a Houston thing although it could be a Southeast Texas thing.

Someone posted an article or something about it a couple a years ago and that's how I found out.

I'm Houstonian, but when I say Coke, I mean Coke.

    I use "soda" otherwise.

Polariod and Rollerblade are others to add to the list. And the English call vacuums "Hoovers". It's a verb, too.

    Hey, plonker, hoover the flat.

I hated working at a grocery store and have people refer to it as soda water. One time an older lady asked me if I could grab her some "soda water" that was on sale. i brought back a 2 liter of club soda that was on sale. She looked at me like i was an idiot.

    Hah.

    That's awesome.

    Thanks for the comments.

I hear the term "Soda Water" often too. I think that's the dumbest thing ever.
