I stopped drinking soda pop, except when mixed with alcohol (of course). I am really hooked on Lipton Diet Green Tea, Citrus flavor. That stuff is like crack to me. I buy it by the 12 pack.
I think you mean LaCroix. Some friends of mine at work drink it. I'll be honest, I tried it once and nearly threw up. To me it was like strait carbonated water. But you might like it if you're already weaned off most of the sugar.
Exactly. Everything I've been reading recently says that there COULD be adverse effects with aspartame, but only if you consumed 50-1000 packets a day. And then it's still only a possibility. Urban myth.
HA! That's pretty good, man Just because the FDA approves something doesn't mean it's okay. I still drink diet sodas sometimes but I just think that they are not good for you. I mean, the FDA can approve of things but we have no idea what the long-term effects are.
I like the Orange flavor ones. Yeah, they have no sugar. It's just a substitute for the carbonation feeling as you drink it
I agree, diet coke and equal packages are a threat to our civilization. This morning i ran out of equal, and gave coffee with regular sugar a chance. It tasted gross.....even regular coke tastes gross.
Except I've had the exact opposite reaction. I've quit drinking sodas for 6+ months on 3 different occasions. Every time I have one for the first time after quitting, they taste like nectar sent down from heaven. Seriously. I think, god damn, this is the greatest stuff in the world. Unfortunately, they start to taste like crap again after a few weeks of heavy consumption.
I seriously need to quit drinking carbonated diet soda. I don't drink much of it but I don't think it is good for you. It may be better than regular soda without the sugar...but I still believe it is bad for you. One thing for sure...it's not good for the enamel on your teeth. I'm not really a tea drinker but I may have to go that direction. I, too, am never satisfied just drinking water.
Here's something radical. Tap water. Unless you live in about the 1% of the US where the tap water isn't safe to drink American tap water is perfectly fine. In fact many bottled water is really just tap water repackaged. Tap water will hydrate you as fast as most other drinks, has no calories or carbonation. It will also save you money and is better for the environment. If you want to drink something out of a bottle go get yourself some drinking bottles and fill them with water refrigerate and you're set. Heck I've saved a few gatorade bottles and just refilled them and keep them in my fridge to take when I go biking or to the gym.
The effects of High Fructose Corn Syrup are well documented to be worse than anything they've "suspected" the artificial sweeteners of doing. HFCS stores directly as fat in your body, it does not convert to energy. Its like basically injecting lard into your ass. An average can of soda has around 45 grams of sugar per 12 ounces. If you drank 5-6 cans of it per day, that is nearly a half pound of processed sugar you are chucking down your gullet. Its a major contributor to childhood obesity. I switched to diet to ween myself off sugar sodas. I was in the habit of knocking back about a 6 pack a day. Now I will usually have 1 or 2 cans of Diet per day, and I try to drink water, tea and other things.
Try to slowly ween yourself off soda. I limit myself to one soda a day now, and my tastes have definitely changed. I still love soda, but now after one glass the syrupy taste gets to me and I've reached my limit. Other decent alternatives are iced tea or lemonade. And I agree with the one other poster about prebottled Lipton or Nestea...that stuff tastes just as syrupy as soda. In other news I've stopped drinking iced coffee (my favorite single thing to consume) since I've been getting serious headaches after drinking each time. Now I'm trying chocolate milk as a substitute.
Eh, it's all about moderation really. I could never live completely without sodas...but we basically get a 12 pack which has to last for two weeks when we go to the store again. That's basically one a day, if that. We run out then it's down to water...or Kool-Aid every now and then.
You're actually watching what you eat/drink now? Wow. Normally you'd scoff at such a thread. Did the new woman convince you to do this???
Aspartame makes me light headed and gives me a weird type of headache - also makes me moody. The splenda/sucralose doesn't seem to affect me in the same way. If I have a diet soda, I'll make sure it is sucralose and not aspartame, but other than that the only thing I really drink is water, tea, and an occasional black coffee.
