I thought about that - until I saw that the Honey BBQ Chicken Strip Sandwich is back at Whataburger for a limited time.
i've never done it but once my husband gave up fried foods. that was tough with the chips and queso at all the mexican restaurants. fries were easy though.
Ok, so I've done the un-thinkable... I gave up....drum roll please.... 1) Alcohol...Well, I've given up beer before, but I drank liquor, so I figured since its so early this year and ends on the weekend of the 1st Round of March Madness, why not.. 2) Fast Food...Anything with a drive through... 3) Sweets and sodas... 4) Cursing...I charge myself a dollar for each word...I'm at about $30 since wednesday... Of course all of this is geared toward being a better christian, so wish me luck...
Free time. no, actually I'm just super busy this semester and it has nothing to do with Lent in particular. I've used the time to become a lot more disciplined, e.g. get to bed by 12 on weeknights, do a lot of work Friday nights, go to the store every weekend and pre-prepare enough meals to last all week. I'm also trying to eat mostly whole grains and salads. And to take good care of my students, and think of others before myself... all that's really extended New Year's Resolutions, I guess. As long as I'm becoming a better person all the time, right? so, I don't add anything new to my plate for Lent. My plate already feels full. I do have admiration and respect for those who give up things completely.
I see that most everyone here who practices lent has either given up on Lent/Catholicism/Religion So whats the point of this thread? As for me......well.......just meat .....and random dirty drug-fueled sex excapades (j/k)
In past years I'd usually give up some kind of junk food...but that has been my new years resolution...to continue to eat healthier, smaller portions and to keep exercising so I can finally lose the rest of my weight that I have been trying to lose. And believe it or not, I'm still adhering to my resolution...lost 8lbs in January. So instead, I decided to fast on water and bread every Friday. It may just be one day, but it has been tough so far. People also seem to forget that it doesn't have to be about giving up something...in year's past I had friend who would try to go to adoration every day.
