What did you expect? Maybe your expectation is too high, too early. The way we are losing right now is different from the way Bobcats are losing. We are like a losing football team who keeps driving the length of the field only to fumble at the 3 yard line. Give it more time.
Ok we know we have problems, holes in the roster, and many say the coach. Strictly speaking in terms of roster changes... Who in their right mind would want Taylor or Howard? Are their any possible suitors for dumb and dumber? It's obvious we need to strengthen our bench and perhaps bring in pg/another shooter/pf rebounder...
... And the 1993-04 NBA champion Rockets team was supposed to beat the Washington Bullets (24-58), the Milwaukee Bucks (20-62), the Charlotte Hornets (41-41), the Minnesota Timberwolves (20-62), the LA Lakers (33-49), and the Dallas Mavericks (13-69). ... And the 1994-05 NBA champion Rockets team was supposed to beat the Boston Celtics (35-47), the Minnesota Timberwolves (21-61), the LA Clippers (17-65), the Dallas Mavericks (36-46), the Milwaukee Bucks (34-48), and the Sacramento Kings (39-43). What's your point?
When we start beating teams like those two squads did, then that'll be relevant. Hell, I'll take winning games consistently at this point.
So we've been in every game to the end, thats not always a good thing, we have lost most or all of them. The last 2 games were close because we blew big leads. We should have blown them out, but instead we crumbled. I like your positive attitude, but the truth is that we aren't where we should be. We've thrown away games to very bad teams. There is almost nothing positive running for the Rockets right now.
You are right, losing close games sucks. But for a new team, being in every game till the end is very good. US olympic team was not in every game till the end. Did you see the way we got those leads? 3 quarters of good basketball in each of the last 2 games. Breakdowns are to be expected for a new team. Again, losing sucks, but there are different ways to lose a game. At this point in our season, records doesn't matter as much as how we are playing on court. And what we are doing is either dominating(shows what we can do), or complete breakdown(Again, new team). Where did you expect us to be at this point in season? If you can't see the positives in this team, you must not have watched all the games.
Leads are no good if you can't keep them. We blew 2 double-digit leads to the Hawks/Knicks in the 4th quarter. I don't care how new this team is, there's no excuse for losing to 2 of the worst teams in the league. Where did I expect to be at this point in the season? Not losing to really bad teams. Det/Minn/LA/and even Tor I understand. But barely escaping the Nets, losing to the Hawks/Knicks are unexcusable.
I expected we have 6-4 record after 10 games. I also expected us to win the hawks and the knicks games. I REPEAT, if we missed the playoffs by one game, these are the games that will come back to haunt us. The WEST are so tough now, spurs, wolves, mavs, suns, jazz, lakers, nuggets, kings are all so good!!
I agree leads are no good if you can't keep them. I think that the difference between us lies in our expectations. The board is divided into two camps right now. The camp I am in: we believe it is too early to tell if our team, including JVG, is good. We have much lower expectations for first part of the season. I'd be happy with .500 record for the first 30 games. We expect breakdowns, even against the worst teams. However, I am expecting a 49 win season. The camp you are in, with the majority of this board: You have much higher expecations than us. Losing to worst teams is unacceptable. Things are are not looking good for Rox. Personel changes are necessary. There really isn't a right or way, just that we have different expectations.
I don't think just the fans on this board are dissapointed ,rocket fans all over the world probaly think we suck right about now cause we do.it's not that we just lose games. where also not that fun to watch either.
EVERY team in the West, with the possible exceptions of the Spurs and TWolves, have had major changes to their roster. Why are we the only one making excuses??
lol, if we miss the playoffs by one game, everyone in the TETT(Too Early To Tell) camp will be very dissapointed. I suspect the TETT camp will be harsher on the team than you guys, if we win less than 47 games. I am expecting 49.
agree with jayz, the lakers with only 4players remain from last year's squad beat hawks by 16points .... chemistry wont improve our rebounding that we are completely lack right now and tha's facts!!!
We are really not making excuses, we just think it's too early to declare this team/coach/player sucks. I don't think their changes compares to our changes. Bobcats compares nicely in this regard though.
Good for the Lakers. We will beat teams better than the hawks by more than 16 points. Rebounding does look worrisome. But chemistry will improve rebounding.
No it doesn't. The Bobcats are an expansion franchise with no one. We have Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady. But I agree about the 2 camps. And I wouldn't say we have too high of expectations, but as of now, the Rockets haven't met any expectations of anyone.
I was referring to the newness of the team. The rockets have exceeded my personal expectations. I didn't even think they would be capable to have 3 good quarters straight this early. Yeah, we belong in different camps and there is no right or wrong. I'll join your camp if after 30 games, we are below .500.
I agree with the beginning post, and also agree with this. they should have won those two games. No excuses. they gave them away.
I expected more, much more. But this is what you get went you ask for too much. The 2 stars will have to carry this team and it's best that they work out the kinks early on. WTF is with the 9 striaght missed shots in the Atlanta game to end the game (END -> lose) Yao's shot is too little to late. WTF is that 9 point "giveaway" in the 4th quarter in the Nets game. I believe that's where they lost the games. It's
Rockets fans expect much more from tmac and yao. Yes, we could have a better record than we have right now. Its the same expectations that fans from the magic have with steve, cavs fans with LJ and suns fans with nash. And they all delivered. Right now, they are playing a much better basketball than our team. Its sad becoz it just happen that we have two of the best in their positions right now. Shaq is slowing down, Yao is ripe to dethrone him as the best center in the game minus the shot blocks. And tmac, he is just a kobe bryant's heart away of being the best player in the game. And the team, its just a phil jackson away from being a championship contender. JVG is not the right coach for the team right now. He plays a slow, delibarate game. And please stop that we are a good defensive team either becoz were not. Maybe last year, the rockets were a good defensive team, but not now. This team sucks. I hope we will not make the play offs so that heads will roll starting at the coaching staff.
