I agree that Joe Biden did nothing particularly wrong in terms of ethics. It's just a poor judgement call to be the point man in Ukranian affairs when his son's company in Ukraine is being investigated.

No it isn't. Nepotism is specifically the use of your power to benefit your family/etc. If Joe wasn't involved, it wasn't nepotism - there has to be involvement/intent by Joe.

For example, if I hire you to get close to your dad, there is no nepotism involved by your dad.

    Nepotism Law and Legal Definition
In the business world, nepotism is the practice of showing favoritism toward one's family members or friends in economic or employment terms. For example, granting favors or jobs to friends and relatives, without regard to merit, is a form of nepotism.

    This makes no sense.

Joe Biden was part of an international effort to oust Ukraine’s top prosecutor, Viktor Shokin, who was not doing his job in fighting corruption.

Skokin should have been looking into Burisma for alleged corrupt acts, that were committed prior to Hunter Biden’s tenure on the company board.

Once Skokin was replaced with a prosecutor who would fight corruption, a serious investigation of Burisma could be pursued.

The effect of Joe Biden’s efforts was to make sure that Burisma was investigated, which did no favors to his son Hunter.

For those Republicans up in arms about nepotism, they should look no further than #43 who was a self admitted alcoholic until the age of 40. #43 can thank his dad #41 for getting into Yale, Harvard Business, Texas National Guard, and every damn board job he had before the of 40.

I agree with everything you said. My point is that the outward optics were an unnecessary risk. Any casual observer who doesn't follow these things closely would easily come to the conclusion that he pushed out a prosector who was investigating a company that his son was a board member of.

It's an easy narrative to sell to a mass swath of people who just trust the memes and headlines they read on Facebook.

It would have been better if the point man to remove Shokin wasn't someone who could have the outward appearance of a conflict of interest.

I'm not saying that Joe Biden was responsible for the nepotism. I'm saying be hired to a high level position because of your family name is nepotism. I'm not claiming that Joe Biden fostered the nepotism. He can't control his son. His son just took advantage of his last name himself.

Because the GOP don’t care about the rule of law when it impacts them. They can longer claim to be the party of law enforcement. They no longer claim the moral high ground. They no longer claim to the party of fiscal responsibility.

People are saying that the things Hunter Biden did in China are far worse than what he did in Ukraine.

I do not think that there has to be a single fact or appearance of impropriety for Trump to market his message. Trump just makes **** up and repeats it, over and over again.

To clarify, I'm saying that's not nepotism at all. Nepotism has to involve intent by the powerbroker (Joe in this case). In the example where I hire you to get closer to your dad:

    Me: probably unethical
You: maybe unethical, maybe just taking advantage of an opportunity handed to you
    Your dad: nothing

But none of the three us fit the concept of nepotism, which is basically someone using their own power to help a friend/family member/etc. No one in this scenario did that. Still sketchy, but nothing to do with nepotism.

Change the names from Joe and Hunter to Donald and Jared and there would be a bigger outrage.

Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (15 USC 78dd-1): Passed in 1977 and later amended, this law criminalizes foreign bribery. It is illegal for a U.S. person to coerce or influence, through bribery or extortion, a foreign nation into taking action that might financially benefit that person, his family or business. If it can be shown that Biden, as V-P, used his public office to influence or coerce a foreign official into taking official action that benefited Biden’s son, then this would be a violation. Much depends on Biden’s intent. In his defense, he would have to demonstrate that his intent had nothing to do with Ukraine’s investigation of Hunter Biden’s company, Burisma. However, the fired prosecutor is on record stating that Biden’s threat to withhold $1 billion in U.S. aid was motivated by, or related to, his investigation of Burisma.

    This is not true.

Nepotism is hiring friends or family yourself.

If your definition was true a lot of people would have gotten jobs because of nepotism.

    The actual definition.

    nep·o·tism
    /ˈnepəˌtizəm/

    1. the practice among those with power or influence of favoring relatives or friends, especially by giving them jobs.
    Did Joe hire anyone?

If it can be shown, then please let's imprison Joe Biden or at least get him out of the race.

Would you like to introduce the FIRST piece of evidence that he did anything at all wrong?

So if this applies to Biden what Trump did was illegal as well right?
