lol star trio with asik and lin. sorry man asik is not a star. lin is a market star, but not a basketball star, yet.
I would go for A. We should stay put and keep the salaries low for now, then in the offseason, be aggressive in signing free agents.
So are you asking whether or not you would rather have a group of unproven rookies vs. having a contending team with 3 All-Stars and the best center in the NBA??? How is this even a question??? Dont get me wrong, I am stoked about the newbies, and think there are valid concerns to getting involved in a Howard deal. However, if in theory you had those 3 guys + role players like Asik and Lin on the roster, just for one year, its worth it all day, every day.
Dwight is one of the top 5 players in the league... The chance that one of our rooks has this level of talent is extremely low... Additionally, they will need 3 to 4 years of time to develop their games... Who knows what will happen... Another Lebron? Injury? Conflict with coaching or management staff? A lot of thing may happen. Low chances of reward, uncertainty and time consuming aren't really business friendly... So I believe trading Howard is the right way to go. Yet, personally, I really don't like how Howard handling the whole saga and his disrespect to the Houston town. So if I was the owner I would play the rooks.
What free agents???? Any All Star level player will want to retain their bird rights to maximize their salaries long term. Those players will 99% of the time force a trade to a team they can extend with long term and retain their bird rights vs. signing as outright free agents. In free agency, the best you can get is an Omer Asik type of player. If you want a superstar, in this current CBA client, you MUST trade for him or draft him as a rookie.
If I was GM... I would make a poll just like this here, and whichever option won, that is the direction the Rockets take. But really, go for the star.
I am 100% positive Asik is not what Morey has planned for long term answer at starting center. But what Asik can do is give a good center, maybe that one guy from Orlando, a real challenge to go up against in practice. Camby is gone. Dalembert is gone. Who would Dwight practice against?
Better poll questions would have been: -Roll the dice with the young guys -Do whatever it takes to get Dwight Howard this offseason -Get Dwight Howard or Bynum this offseason only if the price is right and doesn't include mortgaging the future away -Wait till next offseason to try to get free agents.
THIS^^^^ The OP gave what I thought was a pretty good/easy question. Possibility of Star in future or Reality of star in present and in future. And I'm kinda blown away that so many people are willing to take a chance with our summer league All-Stars as opposed to trading for a STAR TRIO. And Any "Star Trio" paired with Lin and Asik I think would immediately vault us to Championship Contender. But to just roll the dice on these guys and hope that they turn into what we want as opposed to just getting what you want is kind of odd...
We have no choice. Its up to Howard and the Magic. They want us to overspend to get him. Morey wont do that so its a moot point.
We could try poison pilling some teams in the 2013 free agency period and develop our rookies this coming season before deciding who to trade before the 2014 free agency period.
so yer sayin we can keep the youngsters and draft picks and hope they develop to the levels of, i don't know.... D12, JSmith and Rudy Gay... or HAVE D12, JSmith and Rudy gay...ummmmmm.... lol
