We're a bit crowded, no doubt. All the same, the possibility that Battier gets sold to the highest bidder still lingers in the back of my mind. Alexander could be a nice insurance option if that happens and/or Ariza doesn't live up to expectations. Plus, Alexander could get a few minutes at the four in certain match ups.

It's a decent idea, but like you pointed out: we're a bit too crowded. Alexander has plenty of upside but then again so do Ariza and Chase. I guess when it's all said and done the salary + tax that we would have to eat might make him too expensive. I'm still intrigued by this kid, though. I always have been.

Great point; however, I would have gone with Heileman's Old Style instead of the PBR. Also, a tub of cheese curds would have been a nice touch as well.

Good news on the outstanding future draft pick obligations front:

After another check of RealGM's GM Resources, I noticed a change in the Rockets' future draft pick obligation to the Atlanta Hawks from the David Andersen trade. After the trade occurred, RealGM reported that the "future second rounder" dealt by the Rockets was their 2011 pick, including the right to swap picks with the Clippers (acquired in the Steve Novak trade last year). Fortunately, it turns out that this was not the case.

Apparently, the Rockets traded a protected second rounder that will be owed no earlier than 2013 and no later than 2016. The Hawks cannot get the pick until the year AFTER the Pistons get the Rockets' second rounder (Chase Budinger trade). The pick is top-40 protected in 2013, 2014 and 2015. It is unprotected in 2016.

This is potentially a pretty big deal. The Clippers' second rounder in 2011 could be a fairly high pick. Sure, with Blake Griffin in the fold, the Clips could get pretty good in two years. But I'm betting against it. The Rockets now high access to a potentially high second rounder in 2011 and don't have to deal a second rounder to Atlanta until 2016 if they are in all-out rebuilding mode.

Not a bad turn of events at all.

The Bucks have until the end of the 2009/2010 season to get under the tax threshold. They don't need to make a move until the trade dateline to get under the threshold even if they decide to match.

I was under the impression that we had a low 2nd round pick in 2011 from the Grizzlies, because of the Francis trade. I'm not disputing what you have written.I just want to know if that is correct or not.

    Its the other way around.

We had to give back their original 2nd round pick in order for them to take Francis off our hands.

Technically, you are correct. When we dealt Steve Francis, the high second rounder back to Memphis, plus cash, we got a future second round pick in return. However, we will never actually receive that pick, as a practical matter.

The pick from Memphis is a 2011 second rounder, top-55 protected. It must be Memphis's own pick, and if it falls in the top 55 in 2011, then their obligation to us is extinquished. So, unless we think the Grizzlies will have one of the five best regular season records in the league for the 2010-11 season, then the Rockets will not get that pick.

Trust me, Morey isn't exactly counting on getting that pick.
