Not saying your wrong, but we could reason that down to the OWNER'S obsession over avoiding the luxury tax. Hence some fans pounce on that fact and come up with solutions to solve that via trades etc. It is those kind of needs and wants by the owner and teams, obviously differing from team to team, e.g. rebuidling teams wanting to cut costs and contenders wanting to take on star players and their big contracts, that trades happen. Luxury has been the factor over many trades in the last few years.

I know he's coming off major surgery, but Michael Redd in a wheelchair could still probably lead this team in scoring (with good percentages and low turnovers).

    http://www.realgm.com/src_checktrade.php?tradeid=5237890

Redd for Battier, Cook (buyout), Barry (buyout), Dorsey (buyout), White (buyout)

Bucks save about 3 mil before the buyouts, and a little more after the buyouts (I'm not exactly sure about the math regarding buyouts, so I don't know how just much they save). They would still have to cut another player to get down to 15 though (Sharpe?).

Rockets add Redd (and his admittedly bad contract) without giving up anything except Battier (and his worse contract, in terms of value for money).

    Andersen/Pops/Yao
    Scola/Landry/Hayes
    McGrady/Ariza/Budinger
    Redd/(McCants for the minimum?)/Taylor
    Brooks/Lowry

I didn't mean to suggest you're "pie in the sky". On the contrary, you strike me as the complete opposite. Your trade proposals (or at least this one and a couple others I seem to remember) might be almost too realistic, in the sense that neither team really gives up much at all. Thing is, neither team really gains that much either.

But again, I didn't mean any offense by using the word "bizarre".

Bima - you should bump/update your "re-signing McGrady is the Rockets' best option" cap thread from earlier this summer. that was one of the most highly prescient refutations of conventional wisdom that we have seen here, and with both chris bosh and amare stoudemire now seemingly off the market, i am starting to think there is a very good chance you are right.

The 2011 2nd rounder plus part of Francis TE is fine with me,but I don't want to depart with Budinger,Taylor or even Dorsey. Andersen is more of a PF than a center. If Pops, makes it to the team at the expense of Barry, than getting Elson will become harder. Pops is a PF,Dorsey's role is yet to be defined as a C despite his long arms and strong base, but I don't want to give up any youth.

Thanks, man. Appreciate the love. Unfortunately, I cannot bump the thread, since I cannot search for threads.

I'm not talking about the Rockets giving up any real assets other than taking back more salary, most likely via trade exception.

i don't think Les wants to go to far into the Luxury tax this season.

Not w/o Yao being able to play.

I think there will be a roster consolidation type trade but that's about it. Morey has been trying to upgrade the team without much success.

A 3-for-1 or a 2-for1 most likely, with picks and probably cash, and with Cook, Barry and White being the lost likely to go. I would think finding a decent player with an expiring or short contract of about 6-6.5 mil (for all 3) is what we are looking for..

Ridnour matches up with the salary of those three and Milwaukee probably would not want to pay 2 point guards that kind of money if they kept Sessions, but we already have Brooks and Lowry. Maybe the only way is if he (or Brooks/Lowry) is able to play some SG. His contract is expiring, as well.

Cook, Barry, White, pick, cash for Ridnour.

Some other players that match up salary-wise: T Battie (expiring), J Foster, D Diop, N Mohammad, etc...Not making trade suggestions, just giving an idea what is out there...

Another great thread and suggestion, bima.

If Milwaukee is that desperate to stay below the LT threshold, part of me wants to inquire about Joe Alexander's availability. I know that it's a rather expensive idea when you factor in salary + tax, but he seemingly fits in with the low risk/youth/upside movement that Morey is installing.

He's raw but he's super athletic, has range on his shot and all the tools to be a solid player. When you factor in how likely we are to be a faster-paced, running team it makes even more sense.

I'm not saying this is a bad idea, but how long will it take for the bucks to get out of the lottery?

this idea sounds like another urban b***h trying to justify her endless desire of buying expensive handbags.

I was thinking of something very similar to this as an alternative, although I don't think the Rockets would be giving up a pick in that deal.

A roster consolidating trade of Brian Cook, Joey Dorsey and James White for Luke Ridnour would save the Bucks over $2.1M next season (assuming they waive White), allow them to match the offer sheet on Sessions, plus they wouldn't need Ridnour once they keep Sessions, since they'd then have Sessions, Jennings and Ukic at the PG spot.

Meanwhile, the Rockets re-balance their roster, adding a third PG in Ridnour while weeding out their weaker big men. The move would cost the team up to $4.3M total. Ridnour is still an expiring contract, so there are no long-term financial obligations beyond next year. Meanwhile, the Rockets possibly net a mid-first rounder in a future draft. That player could end up being a major contributor on the Rockets, seeing as how it will likely be higher than any draft pick Morey's ever had (at least to this point) and probably the highest the Rockets have had since 2002.

If it only costs ~$4.3M to get the pick and to rent Luke Ridnour as an insurance PG for a year, I'd tell Les to go ahead and do it. Heck, it ain't MY money!

That might be EXACTLY why Milwaukee would make a deal like this. And that was my point. This would be an ideal opportunity to pick up an attractive asset (a future mid-teens first round pick, even if it's not until 2012 or 2013) at a cost of nothing more than an ability to pay some extra salary.

Don't forget that he is fluent in Chinese, or at least the dialect Yao Ming speaks. Of course, how many small forwards do we need?

Well if they were to match Sessions, then they'd have the biggest PG jam in the league...and I'm damn sure Luke Ridnour isn't in their future plans and they are a rebuilding team. I think we could benefit from an experienced veteran who's still in his prime to come to the Rockets with a pretty nice contract that expires very soon. It frees up time to develop Brandon Jennings and Ramon Sessions will get the playtime he deserves!

    Cook
    Barry
    White
    2 future 2nd round picks

    for

    Luke Ridnour

it also frees us up to trade Aaron Brooks

    Ridnour makes Brooks expendable?

Anyway, I don't feel that a Ridnour scenario is as realistic. It doesn't leave the smaller contracts that a team can pay for another to take on. The Rockets lose out the option to get under the tax themselves.

This is THE best trade idea in this freaky off season so far.
